Dear Friends from Our Lady of Sorrows,
Today, I have the undesirable task of passing along some bad news.
A member of our class at Sorrows and Beahan, Jim Graves, has passed away, quite suddenly and very unexpectedly as a result of a heart attack.
Jim was 38, single, and living in "God's Country" of Hayward, WI.
He is survived by his Mother (Peggy), 2 brothers (Bill and Tom as well as their wives and children), and his trusted canine companion, Suzie. Jim was preceded in death by his Father (William).
After finishing 9th grade at TPB, Jim and his family re-located to Naperville, IL. After College, Jim became a teacher and taught school in the Chicago area, (Naperville North High School) Jim was a key contributor to underprivileged and challenged kids with the 'up ward bound' program at Columbia College. Jim had spent time in Hayward vacationing, and spent time there assisting with the recovery of a friend who had been injured in a motorcycle accident. There is a lot to like about the north woods and he made the decision to make a move a handful of years back. Jim took work as a grocer. He spoke of deeply enjoying life in concert with changing seasons, a clear view of the stars, and nature abounding.
Jims outlook was very good, he was full of life, and fun, and his eyes sparkled like sunshine on water. He was touched by some recent re-connecting and marveled at the spans of time, distance, and events that has taken place since the days at OLS. He was looking forward to getting back to work, was making plans to rehab his house, and was continuing his search for the perfect woman.
His gravelly voice, hearty laugh, and most sincere and genuine friendship will be sorely missed.
May we all remember Jim, his works of service, and his humanity in our prayers. May he rest in the peace of Christ.
My condolences to all of you and especially the Graves Family.
Sincerely,
Joe Judge TPB class of 1979
update...
The mass was very moving. Dave G. gave a remarkable tribute, Bishop Imesh was the celbrant, Katie was an awesome speaker, and the music was remarkable, boosted by the Naperville North HS Choir and a Jazzy band group also from Naperville North HS. The ladies of the parish put a fantastic lunch together, all in all a remarkable rememberance for a remarkable man.
Friends and family gathered from everywhere to remember, to share the moment, and to celbrate the life and time we shared with Jim.
