John was my partner at Illinois Bell. I learned a great deal from him about cable engineering. He and I always shared Mensa information. He was very bright and well liked and I am deeply saddened by his death. Maryann and Monika...you have one heck of a guardian angel watching over you. My prayers are with you.

John worked for me for seven years at Illinois Bell in the 80s and early 90s. He was great to work with; no political playing around, just honest work and good evaluations of new equipment and procedures. May our Lord and saviour Jesus Christ watch over his wife and daughter since he is gone.

A great friend that made working with him a joy and pleasure. To us, he was a father figure that always took the time to share his endless knowledge, wit and humor with us. He will be missed greatly and remembered always.

Good times, good friends, good memories...so many of them include the Berendt family. John was one of the "good guys" and will never be forgotten! He will forever be around watching over his family. We are sending our deepest sympathy and a long-distance hug to Maryann and Monika on the tragic loss of a wonderful husband and loving daddy. Know that you both are in our thoughts and prayers today and always. We love you and miss you and wish that we could be there to help you get through this. Please take care of yourselves.

John served his country proudly and well in Vietnam. He also provided for expert professional cable engineering for Illinois Bell's customers for many years. The man was brilliant and will be missed by many.

John was my friend at work.
He was a pro and "made it look easy."
Those of us who worked with John will miss his wit and humor.
