John Capron Obituary

John W. Capron III, age 93, known to all as "Jack", died on January 27, 2019 from injuries sustained in an icy fall. The son of the late John and Cecelia Capron and brother of the late Louis Capron, Jack grew up in Rogers Park, where he attended Sullivan High School and played football and baseball. He served with honor as an officer in the United States Navy in World War II and obtained his degree in Electrical Engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology where he played baseball. He worked as a director of research and development at Continental Can Company in Chicago where he was an international expert in materials and coatings, and later at Sun Chemical Corporation. He married the love and the center of his life, Eleanor Arends when they were both 21 years old. Together they had a joyful and fruitful 67 years of marriage. In his old age, Jack remained doggedly at the center of everything happening in his family. His agility, mental acuity, and remarkable range of gifts were in full force until his death. Just weeks before, he danced at his grand-daughter's wedding. As artistic as he was mathematical, Jack was never without a project. He loved nothing better than a "list" of jobs to complete. He attended Mass every morning and prayed for us all. Jack was the dearly beloved and revered father of the late John W. (Mary Kay) Capron IV, Mary Beth (Bob) Theriault, Daniel (Mary Anne) Capron, and Ellen (Jim) Polzin. He was the adored "Pop Pop" of Kelly, Meghan, Jay, Jason, Jenny, Amy, Brian, Emily, Nora, Anne, Jackie, Mary Kate, and Grace; and the proud great-grandfather of McKenna, Annika, Abby, Tommy, Jack, Brady, Jaxson, Emmy, Luke, Mary Anne, Brian, Danny, John John, Hennessy, Dottie, Eleanor Anne, Mary, James, Eleanor Cecelia, and Charlie.Visitation Thursday January 31, 2019 at Williams-Kampp Funeral Home, 430 E. Memories and Condolences

Not sure what to say?

February 2, 2019

I was deeply saddened to learn of Mr. Capron's recent passing away.

I was Mr. Capron's secretary at CCC for two years (1968-1969). He was a kind, understanding and very fair boss besides being well liked & well respected by all of his colleagues & people who worked for him. He loved your Mother and all his children who he always enjoyed talking about. I was so happy when your parents responded "Yes" to my wedding invitation in January 1970, because I finally would have a chance to meet your Mother who I had heard so much about while working for your Dad. I was aghast that at my wedding reception my Uncle asked my boss's wife, Eleanor, to arrange the flowers that were brought from the church to the reception. I asked him why he choose her and he said "she looked like she was the kind of lady who knew what she was doing". And yes, he was absolutely right, they looked spectacular - thanks to your Mother - who had never met me before.

My very deepest sympathy goes to all of you; your Father's wonderful memories will live within your hearts forever.

Peace be with you always.

Dear Capron Family: I am writing this note on behalf of my mother Dee Phelus, my brother George and my entire family. My father Dean Phelus, who died in 2001, was a life long friend of your father, your uncle Lou and your grandfather Jack. I grew up hearing marvelous fishing and hunting stories about my father and The Caprons. I had the opportunity to meet your father and your mother on two or three occasions many years ago. Please accept our most sincere condolences. Due to the inclement weather we will not be able to attend the visitation or the funeral. Our thoughts and prayers will be with you. Ted Theophilos
