I join in Dick Gritschke's sentiments and his recollections of Jack Holmes.

If imitation is a sign of true respect I bought a home on Central Ave in Wilmette about 30 years after I stopped using Jack's "back alley basketball court" with my great friends from high school.

The first thing I did when I moved back to the old neighborhood was to install a basketball court so that my sons might enjoy the same camraderie that I enjoyed at Jack's "back alley court".

Jack set a great example as a parent, coach and friend back in the late 1950s - - powerful enough to be remembered today, some 45 years after the fact.

I've been looking unsuccessfully for years for someone like Jack - - a generous and joyful man who had time for everyone. The world has

changed though and apparently there aren't any more Jack Holmes.

His life and his person will be well remembered by all who had the good fortune to know him.

JACK,

my favorite memories of you will always be hanging over the back fence at the Holmes' Main BB Court and grinning and laughing as we attempted to duplicate the various moves of our favorite superstars both pro and high school.

After 9:00 PM,lights out, everybody, and I mean everybody, adjourned to the basement pool parlor for some very strange and wild games and prodigious amounts of Grampa Boom's homemade rootbeer.

In fact, Hires finally cut off his supply of extract as they figured he had to be selling the stuff due to the sheer volume being produced.

Your constant support and friendship will always make me feel that I might at least be "Part Holmes".

If there's golf in heaven, I know your tee time is early tomorrow.

You always will hold a large chunk in my memory book.

Dick
