John Lemon Obituary

John R. Lemon, 70 years old, beloved by, and loving husband of Brenda Brdar, father of and Alex Lemon, and brother of Julie Lemon, passed away on April 12, 2022 of complications from cancer. He will be dearly missed by family and friends.

John earned degrees from Illinois Institute of Technology, and was a civil engineer at the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District for 20 years, before retiring in 2015.

Among many interests and hobbies, John's passion for sailing was paramount in his life. He earned his Captain's license and became an expert instructor, volunteering at local sailing schools. His students and colleagues treasured his friendship and greatly admired his skills. John has sailing friends from coast to coast and beyond, as well as numerous friends from various chapters in his life.

He has always been on the side of social justice and will be greatly missed by so many who were touched by him and thought the world of John.

Donations in John's memory can be made to: Judd Goldman Adaptive Sailing Foundation.

Very sad to hear this. John was a lovely neighbor and friend for some many years when we lived on Claremont. I loved seeing Alex grow up...

I first met John when he was a student in a program at Illinois Institute of Technology where I taught. Later, we sailed together. More recently when I could only sail in the Goldman sailing program for those whose physical abilities were not conducive to sailing, he was volunteer. He made a difference in many lives. He was liked by and kind to all, a respected engineer. I feel a great loss and offer my condolence.
