John Michael "Jack" McDermott

John "Jack" Michael McDermott, age 86, of Hinsdale, Marco Island, FL and Delavan Lake, WI passed away on October 7, 2023. Beloved husband of Dorothy (nee Moody). Loving father of John (Leslie), Kevin, and James (Julie). Cherished grandfather of Emily, Sean, Michael, Jimmy, Maggie, and Katie McDermott. Fond brother-in-law, uncle & friend to many. Son of the late John and the late Mary. Proud nephew of the late Monsignor Ignatius McDermott. Jack graduated high school from St. Ignatius College Prep and went on to college at Northern Illinois University. He earned his law degree at Kent College of Law in Chicago. Jack was a proud member of the United States Marine Corps where he served in Korea and Japan. Soon after his return home from the Marine Corps, he married the love of his life, Dorothy. They were married 59 lovely years. Jack spent his entire career as an attorney for Cigna Insurance where he created a partnership; Modesto, Reynolds, and McDermott. Jack and Dorothy raised their three boys in Hinsdale and spent their summers in Delavan Lake � Assembly Park. Jack loved watching and coaching his sons in their sports while they were growing up. Jack was a die-hard Notre Dame Football fan, and you always knew where to find him when Notre Dame was playing on tv. Upon retirement, he enjoyed attending all his grandchildren's sporting events. Jack and Dorothy would spend their winters in Marco Island with family and friends. You could always find him reading the newspaper or a book on his lanai. In lieu of flowers, donations to McDermott Center/Haymarket Center are greatly appreciated. Visitation 4 to 8pm on Friday, October 13th at Hallowell & James Funeral Home, 1025 W. 55th St., Countryside.
