John Rheinfrank Obituary

John J. Rheinfrank III, on Sunday July 4, 2004. Beloved husband of Shelley Evenson; father of Rachel Woodburn, Todd, Jake and Justin Rheinfrank; son of John and Mary Rheinfrank; brother of Kathy Howson, Lisa Collins and the late Phil Rheinfrank; grandfather of Chad, Maddie and Sophie Woodburn and Hunter Rheinfrank; also survived by the rest of his loving family and Frazier, Liza and Magic. John was the CEO and Chief Strategist at seeSpace, where he helped clients identify and develop strategic growth platforms. His work focused on envisioning positive future growth scenarios and revealing critical design discontinuities prior to co-founding seeSpace, John was the Master Strategist at Scient, a Principal at Doblin Group and Executive Vice President at Fitch, Inc. With Shelley Evenson, John started the Fitch Exploratory Design Lab, which became recognized for its pioneering work in integrating business strategy and design. John was also a true educator, both at the university level and during the course of his everyday work and play. Institutions with which he was affiliated include the Ohio State University, North Carolina State University, Carnegie Mellon University, The Illinois Institute of Technology, and The Kellogg School of Management. John was an optimistic, inspirational, visionary in the field of design internationally. His death is a lost to the allied fields of design, business, technology and education. He will be sorely missed by family, extended family, friends and colleagues. Friends will be received at John A. Freyvogel Sons, Inc., 4900 Centre Ave, Pittsburg, PA. 15213 on Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. A memorial service will be held on Saturday at 1 p.m. in the First Unitarian Church of Pittsburg, 605 Morewood Ave., Pittsburg, PA 15213. Remembrance may be made to the University of Pittsuburg Cancer Institute, UPMC Cancer Pavilion, 1st floor, 5150 Centre Ave, Pittsburg, PA. 15232.
