Joseph Robert Compell, beloved husband of Elaine C., nee Courtney, for 50 wonderful years; loving father of Michael J. (Suzan) Compell and Julie A. (Jeff Bucar) Lugiai; beloved son of
Kathryn, nee
Domkowski and the late Joseph J. Compell; fond grandfather of
Rachel (Jason Chapman) Lugiai, Clayton (Amanda) Compell and Candice Lugiai; great-grandfather of Zachari, Joey and Gianna; dear brother of Jerry Compell and Joyce (the late Bill) Wolter. Funeral Monday, 8:30 a.m. from Cumberland Chapels, 8300 W. Lawrence Ave., Norridge, IL, to St. Cyprian Church, 2601 Clinton, River Grove, IL. Mass 9:30 a.m. Interment St. Joseph Cemetery. Joseph has been the Village Clerk of River Grove for many years and is a member of the River Grove Lions Club, the River Grove Nationals and a Commissioner of the Historical House in River Grove, and was a member of the Rhodes School Board. I always think about Joe with a smile on my face and a stinging in the back of my eyes.
I believe Joe left the most noble of legacies; he became the little voice inside our heads. He showed us how to live well, find humor in any situation, and love with a compassionate heart.

Joe was a wonderful example of a truly decent and kind man. Even the note that was included from him in our thank you notes after his passing showed his compassion for others. When I think of Joe he makes me want to be a better person. We were blessed to have him leave such an impact on all of us. I take comfort in knowing that my dad is with one of his fishing buddies. Hard to believe a year has past. Doug was just saying he missed hearing Joe ride by in the front of the house and about challenging Joe to scooter races in the alley. He was a wonderful man/neighbor/friend who is truly missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with you now and always.

another year gone--what have we lost? Father/son nights,canoe trips, river rafting,block partys,garage sales,Kentucky Derby parties,Cub/Sox games, Arlington park races,casino,and finally a Andrew Sister, Blues Brother, Fats, Fr. Guido, Big Tuna, Rabbi Joe, and lastly, we lost our SUPERMAN!! Will miss you Joe, but will wear you ball cap on the ball field.

It is hard to believe it has been a whole year. Marge I think of Joe often and remember all the wonderful times we had together. It is a shame that God took him so soon, but God had other plans for him that we will never understand. We still have the momories and that is somrthing no one can take away.

I have thought alot about Joe in the last year. I miss his warm, caring, thoughtful attitude. His perseverance through hard circumstances has been great example to me and many other people. Joe tried very hard to put others ahead of himself, the sign of a true leader. The world needs more people like Joe. He is missed.

Just wanted to let you know that even though it has been a year the people we love will never be forgotten. As Julie knows when you have the best parents in the whole world you never forget the love they gave to their children. Loosing my Mother right before Joe I truely understand the loss of your best friend. Elaine, Julie and Family,
I am thinking of you all today, it is hard to believe that a year has passed. I hope you are able to find a way to celebrate his life today, as difficult as it may seem, there is so much to celebrate. Joe cared so deeply for his family, his friends and the residents of River Grove. We were all so lucky to have known him.
I have no doubt that my dad, Joe and Mr. Q are hanging out together, keeping an eye on things and making sure we don't mess anything up!

It will be one year tomorrow since you've gone to heaven. Wow...how i've missed you. So much has changed, but I know you have been right there with us, so you saw Candice when she turned 21 and know how much she is growing into a beautiful young woman. Stephen is right along side her. Rachel became, Mrs. Jason Chapman, and she continues to be a wonderful mom and is succeeding at her job. Gia and Joey are growing quickly and are so much fun. Dear Joe:
It is nearly a year since you left us. Sometimes it seems like yesterday. I remember so clearly staying at the hospital with you the last month of your life.
We talked a great deal during that month. You wrote your legacy, we said our goodbyes. We hoped we would have more time together, but God had other plans for you.
You were so ill and in such pain. As much as I wanted you to stay with me I couldn't be that selfish when you were hurting so badly.
Life is not the same without you. I miss you so much. You will always be in my heart.
