Danny / Ruthie..
It was with some sadness that I read of your father's passing. I remember with pleasure the last time I saw your dad over diner in Chinatown with my folks. Jimmy was always full of life.

To: Jimmy Fuerst's family. Your dad/ grand dad/uncle, etc. was a very good human being, a bright teacher and a fun, interesting person both to know and to talk with. I lost touch with him back in the late 70s. Life intervenes I guess. He knew South Shore, the Stony Island corridor and Hyde Park like the back of his own hand. His loss is a great one for the city he loved and served in many ways. Jimmy saw through politicians' smoke screens and spoke out truthfully. He even wrote a piece in the Catholic national magazine of commentary Commonweal at one point that taught a few of us on our side of the aisle what real values are. God bless you and your family. I am sorry for your loss.

I'm very saddened by the news, even though we've been expecting it. A personal letter will follow.
