Julie was a beloved friend and fellow artist whose mentoring and guidance amidst some very troubling times for me personally will never be forgotten. I hold a very special place for Julie within my heart and was shocked to learn of her passing. My love goes out to her family, who she loved dearly.

Dear Pamela, Gail and Celia and families,
You most likely don't even remember meeting me, but your Mom was an important person in my adult life. I met her in 1971, right after I was married. We lived at 1332 E 56th Street, right around the block from your house. I used to pick Julie up in the morning and we used to go to work in the printmaking studio at The School of the Art Institute. I remember one morning in particular, your Mom was exhausted from being up late writing a paper with one of you-- I don't remember who it was!I had no frame of reference since I was only out of college a year or two and newly married. It was the only time I realized there was an age difference between Julie and me! Your Mom always supported whatever I did and summed up what I was trying to do often before I knew myself. After my husband and I had our first daughter, I remember taking her to preschool one day and I came home in tears because all the Halloween pumpkins taped to the door of the school were exactly the same-- not what I wanted for my kids. I came home and called your Mom right away. She reassured me that all I had to do was think the way I think at home, and they would learn how I think the same way. She was right--as she was many times over the fifty years that I was fortunate enough to have her reassuring me.
We were all so fortunate to grow with her thoughts and we'll always be able to carry those thoughts with us.
Sending hugs,
Judy Freilich
