I remain grateful to Ken for his personal support for the resolution of conflict diamonds. My negotiation for the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme relied on his support for the USG to implement a ban on conflict diamonds that also led to the arrest and conviction of Charles Taylor.
In Chicago, he was a stalwart supporter of civic culture and a friend.

Marcia. My sincere condolences. Ken was an impactful teacher imy second year at the Law School (1964). Later our paths crossed in the federal government and I was able to share my gratitude for his early mentorship. What a truly admirable career.

Marcia and family, my heart and prayers go out to you at this sad time. Ken was a terrific friend, whose wisdom and legal knowledge I first knew at the State Department. At Treasury he helped me negotiate the Kimberley Process Certification scheme that banned conflict diamonds. His dedication to civic life in Chicago inspired me in my encore career in Chicago. His was a life well lived and he will live on in our memories.
