Kevin Kellam was a clown.
And reflecting on the years we spent together in Memphis I realize how special that is. Kevin, like the rest of us, was a guy who liked to find the humor in our day-to-day lives in those truely carefree times. But he was willing to go a little bit further. Willing to give of himself, he would gladly offer himself the brunt of a joke to give us all a laugh. Whether it was singing one of those goofy songs, or drinking a beer while standing on his head, or (one of my favorites) the time at Nick & Mouses' apartment he just started growling and barking then got on all fours and chased Nick around the front room till he got a hold of Nick's pant leg in his mouth. Kevin was growling and tearing those pants, Nick was yelling and cussing and the rest of us were just laughing our butts off.
But that was Kevin. A real life clown. A selfless offering of fun with never a glimpse into personal pain. A giver.
I'm saddened to hear of his passing. The world today is yet a little less fun.
My condolences to his family.

Kevin, as you all know, was a lot of fun to be around. My memories are from our days we spent together during High School.
I recall washing the red and white convertible in your driveway on Saturday's, getting ready for our
nights out on the South side.
He was a great guy and a good friend.
Sorry to hear about his passing.

Kevin and my lives intersected for a few years during and after high school. Reading of his passing has brought back a flood of memories: most funny, a few tragic, many heartwarming and now one that is sad. Although I had long since lost touch with Kevin, he clearly had a large enough impact on me to compel my extending condolences these many years later.

I offer Kevin and his family a simple prayer from St. Ambrose that was also selected for Sen. Robert F. Kennedy's Mass card: "We have loved him during life, let us not forget him in death, until we have brought him through our prayers to the house of God."
