The artist Lenore Schulman Lang died July 31, 2009 in La Jolla, California at age 81. Ms. Lang was born in New York City in 1927. She received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY, and also studied at the Baltimore Art Museum with Shelby Shackleford Cox, and at the Bauhaus School of Design at the Illinois Institute of Technology. She began her career as a designer with Norcross Inc. of New York City. Ms. Lang married Jerome Schulman in 1948, with whom she raised two daughters and a son. Lenore
Schulman's art career blossomed in the 1970's. She served as the Artist-In-Residence in Jerusalem, Israel in 1973 and 1974, and as a Juror with the Chicago Art Institute in the 1980's. She also taught for several years at the North Shore Art League in Winnetka, IL, was an active member of numerous artists' organizations, including the Arts Club of Chicago, the Chicago Society of Artists, the Evanston Art Center, the Printer's Atelier West of San Diego, and the Chicago Artist's Coalition, and was elected to membership in the Cliff Dwellers' Club of Chicago. Lenore Schulman created paintings, etchings and collages centered on ancient cultures, an interest motivated by her residence in Jerusalem and travels to archaeological sites throughout the world. Her work was shown in many one-person and juried exhibitions, and is featured in professional and corporate collections throughout the world. Ms. Lang was survived by her husband, Carl Auerbach of La Jolla, CA; daughter, Martha Schulman of Richmond, VA; and grandsons, Josh Stolberg and Alex Stolberg of Richmond; daughter, Ellen Lang, of Evanston, IL; and by her husband's family, Linda and Michael Allderdice of Los Angeles and their son Christopher; and Rick and Barbara Auerbach of Philadelphia and their son, Daniel; her son, William Schulman, predeceased her; her second husband, Fred Lang, died in 1991.
