Dear Mabel, my precious baby sister, I can´t believe it has been two years already since you went to your Heavenly Home! It still feels like yesterday when we said goodbye to you. The image of you singing praises to God, our Heavenly Father, to our Lord Saviour Jesus Christ and to our Comforter, the Holy Spirit always bring a smile to my face! All of us who know you and love you on this side of Heaven miss you a lot! Your self made cards with beautiful pressed flowers, all your gifts, your beautiful sharing through your emails, mails, they all reminded me of the precious friendship that we had! I have all settling in with moving forward without you, my little sister! Things will never be the same! Today as we commemorate your homeward bound, we missed your smile, your love, your warmth, your generosity, your vibrant and resilient spirit and your talents with entertaining us with your beautiful piano music! Until we meet again! I love you

Two years on and you remain so alive in our thoughts, Mabel. Too many wonderful moments to recount but all remembered. The distance between us, never counted ... It still doesn´t. Know that you remain loved as will Reynold and Linus and his wife, and Lennox.

In Christ we remain, one MT to another, "Bro" and "Sis" ... Amen.

Remembering Mabel

It was a privilege growing up with Mabel as family friends. How fitting when her parents named her in Chinese, which meant beautiful in all aspects. I remember she was a beautiful & cute little girl, about 8 years old, the youngest among the 6 of us. She was like our baby sister indeed.

When Mabel entered the finance world, her intelligence, hard work ethic, elegance, and kindness shined through. She set high standards for everything she attempted, yet she was understanding and encouraging towards others. All along the way, one could sense her inner beauty. Her achievements and talents were indeed impressive, her piano music vivid & colorful. She raised a wonderful, accomplished son who is now raising his own most precious daughter. A proud grandmother she was. Her marriage to Reynold was a match made in heaven. He brought much love and joy to her life.

Mabel faced cancer head on with courage and a positive attitude. Those years of treatments did not stop her from living a full and happy life. She continued to serve the community she loved; her piano recital made us proud and yearning for more. She was kind and generous to share products of her artistic works, including the most beautiful pressed flower cards. She tended to the garden and shared gorgeous flowers with friends.

Mabel, thanks for the memories. I miss you dearly.

Although Mabel`s physical body rested, her soul lives on.
O death, where is thy victory? O death, where is thy sting?

A loving tribute to Mabel.

It's extremely rare like in Mabel's case, which took up so much of her sincerity n kindness just to continue a good friendship started by her late parents who had passed about 20 yrs ago. The carry on of accepting me as the 2nd generation good friends is very rare nowadays. At age 95 now and even long before, I've zero to contribute, but Mabel didn't mind, she constantly filled me with her deep well of knowledge, her humility, good sense of humor and faith encouragement. She became my very wise young confidante.

Every time I felt a little depressed I always thought of Mabel, I saw her put her faith and kindness in action and lived a meaningful life. She lighted up my life, lifted me up by
telling me her happy days with her Prince Reynold, theirs' is rock solid unconditional, forever love.

I'm so very proud of all Mabel's achievements, feel so privileged to have known her as a super beautiful human being, very grateful to have richly blessed by her life. So proud to be her Auntie Evelyn. Like I always said 'see you later Mabel'.

It is so true no time or tide can ever erase what is written in our hearts!

What a blessing that God had arranged for Mabel and I reconnected after almost 50 years of losing contact! On 5/31/22, my church secretary forwarded an email from Mabel to me looking for me...

My friendship with Mabel started back in 1972 when she was a teenager, freshly immigrated to Oakland, California from Hong Kong. Her school mate introduced her to a Cantonese speaking Christian Fellowship at Chinese Independent Baptist Church (CIBC) located in Oakland Chinatown. She found this Church as a safe, warm and welcoming place for her. As she had shared with me, "Meeting you and other Christian brothers and sisters was definitely one of the positive highlights of those years. Most importantly, Jesus used that chaotic time in my life to bring me to Him. I committed to Him my faith as a believer in the summer camp in 1973". However afterwards she had moved to a different church during college and then left the Bay Area and went to Chicago upon graduation from having her BS and MBA in 1979. She and I had lost contact since then.

My immediate response to her email rekindled our friendship! Like she said, we were "lost and found". Our love for each other ran deep because it was bonded by God´s eternal love! We shared everyday, reminiscing the old times and sharing what God had done in these years in our lives! From her daily sharing I learned more of the person Mabel had become. She was a very humbled person, never boasted of her accomplishments in her work or her community services, yet I knew that she was highly respected, recognized and appreciated by those who worked with her! I feel very proud of her!

Her devotion, loyalty and love for her family, relatives, friends and neighbors were amazing! She loved her husband and her Prince, Reynold deeply, spent time traveling, fishing and doing things they love to do together. She felt so proud of her son, Linus, and his family. Her granddaughter, the adorable Lennox, was the apple of her eyes!

She was very generous, always sharing the harvesting produce and the beautiful flowers, especially her peonies from the Tung garden with her neighbors and friends! I am one of the blessed recipients of her handmade pressed flower cards with her hand written notes, hand made gifts and many precious photos and videos from her! They are my treasures!

On 8/11/22, she wrote, "will you take me as your baby sister and you my big sister?" Of course, in God´s family, we have been sisters with God being our Heavenly Father!

The most unforgettable event took place when she made a special arrangement for us to meet when she and Reynold visited the Bay Area last August! That was the first time we met after so many years being apart! What a joy that was!

What blessed me the most was her pursue for God. She wrote, "I need to grow deep into God´s Words, to be stretched and to see the reality of our Almighty God" She devoted her time to attend Bible Studies, to study books by Dr. Charles Swindoll, Dr. Rick Warren, listening to sermons, memorizing Scriptures and praying to God and seeking His will for every circumstances in her life! With her illness, life posted a lot of challenges and struggles. She allowed me to peek into her world of pain and suffering! I encouraged her, listened to her, walked along side with her, cheered her on and prayed for her. Most of all, she experienced the reality of the Almighty God that she believed in! God was there with her, giving her enough His Grace and Mercy to take one step at a time, one moment at a time! In her last sharing to me on 4/28/23, she wrote, "So all is not well. I asked God to give me strength to guide me through most darkest days exactly what he wants me to do and I still miss you so much...". Indeed God took my little sister Home according to His time and relieved her from the pain and suffering in this world! I feel very sad, but the image of her exploring the Glory of her Heavenly Home brought me comfort, peace and joy!

Her trust in God, her resilience, her passion for life, her tenacity had touched all of us and inspired us who knew her. She has left her footprint in each one of our hearts! I have already missed you, I love you, my dear little sister! I am so happy that you are "safe in the arms of Our Lord Jesus Christ, safe on His gentle breast, There by His love o'ershaded, Sweetly your soul shall rest!" What a day of rejoicing will be when we gather in our Heavenly Home in the presence of our Lord and Savior!

Very sad and deeply sorry to hear Mabel's passing. Mabel was one of the first partners I got introduced when I joined Northern. She impressed with me with her intellectual curiosity, kindness and insights. Later on I worked with Mebel as an advisor closely when I chaired ALBRC within Northern. I benefited greatly from her advice, leadership, passion and love for ALBRC and NT in general. Mabel will be greatly missed and I count myself fortunate to have known her as a colleague, mentor, and friend.

Reynold Tung

May 30, 2023

I added the following tribute to Mabel's FB:

Everyone, this is Reynold, Mabel´s husband. It is with the deepest sorrow that I announce Mabel´s passing on May 23, in peace, with family nearby. She was such a beautiful person and soul, I will miss her forever.

We were married for 29 years and 1483 days, the days being the amount of time from her diagnosis to her passing. Given the limited time left, we lived each day as if it was our last, and each day was better than the one before, and Mabel herself was more and more beautiful as time went on.

Mabel had an impact on so many lives at work, home, and in the community.

At work, Mabel was known for her sense of fairness, work ethic, grace, charm, passion, and dedication and helped people and teams achieve more than they thought they could, and retired as the highest ranking Asian woman executive while working with one of the bank`s most complex and challenging relationships. She broke glass ceilings and was a model and mentor for many.

Mabel also served on the library board, and pursued passions such as ice skating, fishing, biking, walking, gardening, bird watching, crafts such as sewing and flower pressing, and resumed piano lessons to learn the most complex compositions such as Chopins Ballades. She was arguably the piano instructors most advanced student.

Mabel also desired to fill gaps in her knowledge of American history and classics studies, and took over a dozen online courses in these topics, all with an eventual score of 100%.

Mabel was eager to reconnect with old friends and was instrumental in reaching and networking numerous high school and college friends, including those from her high school church.

Mabel´s illness had some unanticipated bonuses, one being all the wonderful nurses, CNA´s, techs, hospice personnel, and caregivers that we met. We are forever grateful for their sensitive and loving care.

Another was when Mabel gazed upon me with such love, devotion, and trust when help was needed due to her inability to focus and concentrate. To experience such grace and gratitude is a gift impossible to describe.

Finally, Mabel continued to be strong in her faith, reinforced by many of her friends, and we now know that she is at peace.
