It is so hard to believe that it has already been seven years since Clare's passing. My sister, Karen and I miss her every day and often talk about her and the great friend that she was to us and the non-profit organization we run, Equine Advocates. Clare was not only a true friend, but a mentor as well. We met over the phone when I applied for a Sanctuary Grant though the National Anti-Vivisection Society (NAVS) which was a program that she helped to originate and run during her many years there. We became friends and eventually, she began regular visits to our sanctuary here in Chatham, NY. We treasure and remember those visits. When Clare passed it was a tremendous loss for everyone who cared about her and the animal causes and animals whom she helped to protect both through her work and on a personal level. Clare truly was one of the great people of the world. She also had an amazing sense of humor and I can remember countless telephone conversations I had with her where we always laughed a lot even if the conversation began on a serious note. I feel very fortunate to have known Clare because she was such an unique, caring and dedicated person who was so generous with her advice and experience, but mostly, because she was such a wonderful and close friend. She is and always will be sorely missed.

Dear friends and family of Clare,
I am sick to learn of Clare's illness and death. I worked with her at J. Walter Thompson, but even then, her passion for saving animals was clear. Sympathies to all the family and those who worked with her. She made a difference by being here.

I did not know Clare in her time on this earth. I learned of Clare through Equine Advocates blog. Thanks to EAs remembrance of Clare I discovered the NAVS, of which I now support. Clare, your good work continues. Thank you Clare for all you did and continue to do for beautiful innocent animals. May you be in a place of eternal joy.

clare gave our little church our first grant- for baytril for some sick cats- 500 dollars saved so many lives- but, i first worked with clare on the 83 mobilization for animals rallies- i found myself having issues with the research and Clare was a tremendous assist, quietly without needing fanfare she stepped up and got the job done- She will be deeply missed by everyone, especially all the animals lives she touched and saved throughout the year

Clare's warmth, sense of humor and friendship will be sorely missed, but the fond memories will last a lifetime. She was truly a good soul, and the selfless work she did on behalf of the voiceless -- as well as the countless hearts & minds she swayed toward treating our fellow creatures with dignity, respect and kindness -- will most certainly live on for generations yet to come. Rest in peace, my old friend.

Those of us involved with animal protection, especially through the operation of a sanctuary know how important and meaningful Clare Haggarty's work was and how much it meant to her. Clare's management of the NAVS Sanctuary Fund was much more than a job for her. It was truly a labor of love. I met some of the best people in my life through helping animals. That is how I met Clare. She became one of my closest and dearest friends and I will miss her. In this time of great loss, there is also much to celebrate. The world was a better place because Clare Haggarty was in it and I feel so privileged to have known her and been her friend. Here is a tribute to Clare that we posted about her which includes information about some of the equines she helped us rescue and her connection to one very special mare: http://www.equineadvocates.org/EquinesBlog/

Clare will be greatly missed. The Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries was blessed with her presence on our board. Clare did so much for the animals and sanctuaries but she also did much for the people that she came in contact with. She gave me some of the most beneficial advice anyone has given me, and I'm sure others feel the same way. It takes a special person to dedicate themselves and their career to the animals who can never say thanks, and Clare was all about ending cruelty and giving special dispensation to animals who had suffered so greatly before being given sanctuary. Clare touched so many hearts and souls. Most of all I will miss her as a friend, and my deep condolences go out to her family and her beloved cats.

My sympathies go out to Clare's family and everyone who is grieving for her now. Clare's life's work was far-reaching and she left us all too soon. Her compassion has provided a better future for so many animals. The NAVS Sanctuary Fund has built more monkey habitats at Jungle Friends Primate Sanctuary than any other - Clare's presence is everywhere I look! Her devotion to her mission has made a profound effect on so many. I am honored and privileged to have known such a dynamic force. I will miss Clare, but I will be reminded of her work all around me at the sanctuary. Clare will live on in our hearts and at Jungle Friends.
