Mary Mortenson Obituary

Mary Jane (Jane) Mortenson, nee Lamb, 91 of Chicago, passed away peacefully December 16, 2022. Loving mother of Joanne Eckenhoff and Richard Mortenson (Rachel); proud grandmother of Carrie Eckenhoff (Brent Ross), Alison Zapp (Jackson), Katie Johnson (Andy), and Clare Mortenson; and great-grandmother of Calla Zapp, Grace Zapp, Owen Zapp, and Cayden Ross. Jane was preceded in death by her son Robert J. (Bobby) Mortenson, her sisters Patricia Lamb Cameron (Bob) and Catherine Lamb Sweeney (Ed), and former husband Robert G. Mortenson. Jane was a graduate of Mundelein College, where she majored in Journalism, and received an MBA from Loyola University. A lifetime resident of the Chicago area, she lived in downtown Chicago since 1975, where she was active in continuing education programs and various political causes; In 1997 at age 66, Jane served a two-year tour in the Peace Corps, staged in Lviv, Ukraine, providing guidance to local business startups. Prior to moving downtown, she resided in Evanston and was Director of Student affairs for Michael Reese Hospital School of Nursing. She was a passionate observer of current events and politics, while an avid reader of history and non-fiction writings.

A celebration of Jane's life will be arranged at a time and place to be determined, where pictures and other remembrances of Jane will be displayed. Interment will be private.

I was a student nurse at MRHMC from 1965-1968. I remember Mrs. Mortensen as always smiling , energetic, and devoted to her job. My sincere condolences on your loss.
