Matthew Snyder Obituary

The world lost one of its most generous and inspiring souls, Matthew David Snyder, 46, of Chicago on December 1, 2015. Beloved husband of Patrick White, cherished son of Mary and the late Charles David Snyder of Broken Bow, NE; fond brother of Rebecca (Shawn) Burke of Sutherland, NE, Anthony Snyder of Broken Bow, NE, Elizabeth (Casey) Beck of St. Paul, NE, and Sara (Dustin) Myers of Broken Bow, NE; loved uncle of Shelbi, Joslyn and Morgan Burke, Joel, Jack and Charlee Myers. Matthew was a graduate of Broken Bow High School in Broken Bow, NE and Creighton University in Omaha, the home of his beloved Bluejays. Matt started his career at First National Bank in Omaha as a management trainee. He then moved on to Chicago to pursue a successful career in marketing, first at Sears and most recently, with New Control. Matt was a huge sports fan and his booming voice could be heard cheering on his Creighton Bluejays and the Nebraska Cornhuskers. He had a passion for travel and considered Hawaii his second home. He left a legacy indicative of how many lives he touched. He will be greatly missed by many close friends and family, including his cats, who were like children to him. Matt's spirit for life will continue on through his generous donations as an organ donor though Gift of Hope. A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 5 at St. Alphonsus Church, 1429 W. Wellington, Chicago. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Matthew's name may be made to the PKD Foundation, www.pkdcure.org/donate.

I first met Mat at the Creighton Freshman Weekend. A group of us ended up in a dorm room where he was playing tennis with, I believe Bob Rammeker(Spelling?) or Chip Stumpf. We were friends for years to follow. My kids now hear all about Matt and his huge personality and love.

I worked with Matt at First National Bank when he was a Management Trainee. He was one of the nicest people I met at the bank. Everybody liked him. The world has lost a kind soul.

I'm so very sorry to hear about Matt. He had a way of bringing laughter to everyone he knew. I have a tremendous amount of wonderful memories about Matt and how much fun we had when we worked together. I wish so much that I could attend his funeral in Chicago or the Memorial in Broken Bow. Please accept my condolences.

Matt will be missed by all who were blessed to know him. He was the first person to make you laugh or smile. We need more people in the world today like him. Patrick, I'm so sorry he was taken from you so soon. Pictures show you both enjoyed a full life in your short time together. Prayers are with you all!

Mary and family,

Mac and I are so sorry to hear about Matt's passing. We have fond memories of him as he was growing up in Broken Bow. He was our paperboy for several years. A very nice and polite young man. Our prayers and thoughts are with the family.

Matt was a wonderful man and his legacy is you, Patrick, your family and his loving family. Of those three things he was surely most proud. I hope in time you are able to look back and find comfort in words like these left by the many people whose lives were touched by Matt. Warmest sympathies to the White and Snyder families.

Dear Patrick, Mary, Becky, Sara, Libby and Tony,
I am so deeply sorry for your loss. Matt was the most incredible friend, always willing to offer help. He had a gorgeous voice and I always enjoyed attending Mass with him at Creighton!! He lit up the room the minute I met him and 28 years later I can still remember him just as vividly as that Freshman Weekend at Creighton as his personality warmed us all to the idea of coming to college. I always felt so special when we spoke, a trait that he imparted on all who spoke to him.
I now sit reflecting on how he lived his life to the fullest, and consider how to do the same with mine. The unprecedented number of hearts that have been touched by his generosity, humor, passion and faith are a testament to what you taught him as a child, and how much you all loved him over his life time.
I will continue to pray for him and all of you,
Karen Bishop Brough
