Maureen Galvan Obituary

Maureen E. Galvan (nee Doherty), of Palatine, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on September 12, 2021 at the age of 62. Beloved wife of Thomas for 37 years; devoted mother of Jennifer (Ian) Altieri, Colleen (Kailey Klein) Galvan, and Thomas (Megan) Galvan; proud grandmother of Autumn and Brayden Altieri; cherished sister of Margaret, Tom Doherty (Elizabeth Haskins), Dr Sheila (Dr. Ronald) Bonaguro, Cathy (Jay) Dumphy, Patricia Doherty, and John (Julie) Doherty; adored daughter-in-law of Armida (the late Andrew) Galvan; dear sister-in-law of John (Mary) Galvan, Theresa (Ron) Ketcham, and Andrew (Julie) Galvan; loving aunt to numerous nieces and nephews and treasured friend to many. She was preceded in death by her parents, Tom and Catherine (Caffrey) Doherty.

Maureen was a parishioner and student of St. Thomas More on Chicago's South Side and attended Mother McAuley High School. She went on to study at Mundelein College and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business. She maintained hundreds of friendships throughout her life from those early days. Her career in human resources spanned from Chicago to Southern California. She proudly retired from the Palatine Public Library in 2018 after 20 years, serving as Assistant Director and Director of Human Resources.

After retirement, she was called to volunteering in the quest to help others. She became active in St. Vincent DePaul Society in order to help the needy in the Palatine area. She also tutored those who spoke English as a second language. Most importantly, although she said she did not retire to babysit, that notion immediately changed with the arrival of Autumn Joy (3) and Brayden Thomas (1). She gladly took to babysitting her grandchildren regularly two to three days per week.

She will be greatly missed as a wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, godmother and friend but now becomes the guardian angel of all who knew and loved her.

Visitation will be held at Smith-Corcoran Funeral Home, 185 E Northwest Hwy, Palatine, IL 60067, on Wednesday September 15th from 2 to 8 PM. A Roman Catholic funeral mass will be held at St. Theresa Church, 455 N Benton St, Palatine, on Thursday September 16th at 9:30 AM. Burial will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, 6001 W 111th St. Alsip, where she will be laid to rest nearby to her parents.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations will be gladly accepted in Maureen's name for the benefit of St. Vincent DePaul, c/o St Theresa Parish, 455 N Benton St. Palatine IL 60067. More info 847-359-8020 or www.smithcorcoran.com.
