Miguel Cervantes Obituary

Miguel Angel Cervantes passed away on January 5th, 2023. He was surrounded by many of the people he loved the most in his final hours. Miguel Angel was born in Mexico, raised in Chicago, and felt at home in cities all over the world. For the last fourteen years, Miguel shared his life with his husband, Kevin Barrett and beloved dog Mister. He is grieved by his parents, Salvador and Bernadina Cervantes and his best sister, Marlene Cervantes, as well as his extended and chosen family and friends. His passion for good music, Mexican design, and beautiful objects will live on through his project, Comercio Popular, and through the people who loved and were influenced by him. For having loved him and having lost him, we will never be the same.

During my time at High Jump Chicago, Mr. Cervantes was the absolute best leader and had a special way of connecting with all students, no matter their background. His words were always so inspiring and you could tell how much he loved what he was doing. My condolences to his family, he will be sorely missed.
