Nancy Newton Obituary

Nancy Newton lived at peace and died at peace on December 25, 2015. She touched everyone she knew with her compassion and good humor. She was a teacher, psychologist, listener and friend. Her interests included playing the piano, quilting, working out with a personal trainer, cooking, golf, riding a bike and walking around the Botanic Gardens. Her warmth and loving kindness was evident to everyone she met. She leaves behind her husband, Ed Nagel, and her 22 year old cat, Alice. Her husband, family, the Buddhist community and all her students, friends, and fellow teachers are saddened by her death but all have been inspired by her life. She made everyone and everything better. She will be cremated and a memorial service will be held at a future time. In loving memory, Ed.

Dear Nancy, I will always remember the day I came into your office with a personal dilemma that was making me depressed and a little crazy. You put me into one of your armchairs, let me cry, and listened intently to my story. By the time I left, my soul was beginning to heal and I felt there was room for hope in my life. I will never forget that gift. You will always be a special person to so many of us and we will never forget you. Love you forever

I wish to emphasize that Dr Nancy Newton was NOT an ordinary person. She was very competent in her Profession without any trace of vanity. Way too modest perhaps! I certainly remember her!

I supervised Nancy for family and group when she was an intern at ISPI. She was the inspiration for my going back to get my doctorate in Clinical Psychology and I had her for aging. She was a wise and caring person, a great therapist, and a terrific teacher. I just recently learned of her death almost 6 years ago. My condolences to her husband and all who loved her and had the luck and pleasure to walk thru life with her.

Nancy Newton, Ph.D was a well known psychologist, affiliated first with Nortwestern University Older Adult Program. I was doing my Fellowship There. She was very bright, and had a benign overall outlook . Consistently a decent person.

Goodness Gracious. Nancy was a good friend and reached out with a lovely card during the holidays for many years after the joint experiences we had in internship training in Chicago. I'll never forget the quiet peaceful night we spent in your photography studio in Chicago on one of my trips there. It had been a while but I thought I'd look her up, my goodness.

So sorry for your loss Ed. Craig Schweon

I am so sorry to hear of Dr Newton's passing. She was my Professor for coaching methods class. I really appreciate her patience and valuable feedback as well as her practical examples and clam demeanor. I am sad to know she didn't have many years after retirement to enjoy more of the time for activities she enjoyed. Thank you Dr Newton and rest in peace
