Norman Wecker Obituary

Norman R. Wecker, formerly of Chicago Heights, founder of Skyline Furniture Co., U.S. Navy PBY Pilot WWII veteran, passed away July 24, 2018. Born in New York City in November 1923 to Max Wecker and Hannah Bornstein Wecker, Norman led an exemplary life of love of family, hard work, business success, civic responsibility, decency, and constant generosity. He made lasting friendships throughout his life and was a true example of the greatest generation. Norman married his wife, Josephine G. Wecker (nee Morrison) in 1944 the day after he received his Navy wings in Pensacola, FL. Over the 67 years that they were married, their love deepened into a joyful certainty. Son Ted (Rita Michaud), daughter Miranda (James Hidy), and son Bruce (Phyllis Annee) Wecker were the absolute core of his life. His grandchildren Meganne (Trent Steed), Joel (Arthi), Alan Wecker; Elaina Develine; and Steven Wecker were deeply loved and brought him enormous pride. His adored great-grandchildren Meredith and Ella Steed showered love on their GGPA. After he lost his beloved Josephine, and medical issues grew, he was given companionship and loving care by caregivers Meriam Ayapana, Rose Lee, and Analisa Buendicho. Norman founded the furniture manufacturing company after the war. It has become a leading manufacturer of quality furniture employing over 350 people in the south suburbs. Norm and Jo loved sports, the arts, culture and adventure and worldwide travel. They had a wide circle of true and close friends. Norman left these instructions: "Have a celebration knowing that my life was full to the brim with joy and a loving family." Services are private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to When We All Vote https://www.whenweallvote.org or March for Our Lives https://marchforourlives.com.
