Patrick Conway Obituary

It is with great sadness that the Conway family announces the passing of Patrick J. Conway (Pa) on March 12th, 2017 at the young age of 55. Pat is survived by his loving wife of 38 years Helen, adoring daughters Amie (Tommy) and Ciara (Patrick), his loving son William (Angelina) and his beautiful grandchildren Shayla Rose, Ashling, Liam and Tommy. He is also survived by his mother Dinah, brothers Ailbe, Ger, Will, Tom and sisters Mary, Frances, Dinah and Deirdre, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, his aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews, cousins, relatives and friends. Pat was preceded in death by his father William Conway. Pat was born in Fermoy, Co Cork, in February 1962 and attended St Colman's College in Fermoy. After finishing school, he went to England to work for London Bus. He returned to Ireland in 1981 and took a position as test engineer with Perkin Elmer. He later joined Concurrent Computers in Cork and worked with them until they closed their doors. Pat began his long and distinguished career of over 30 years with Motorola in 1987, starting out as the lab manager in Cork, and moving to the position of Vice President of Product Integration for Motorola Mobility in Chicago. While many people made the transition from Motorola Cork to Motorola in Chicago, Pat was the only one to rise to the level of Vice President. He was technically brilliant and could understand complex issues easily. Pat was humble and would make people feel at ease in any situation. While work was a major part of his life, his wife Helen whom he worshiped, his children and grandchildren were his reason for living. Pat was very active and enjoyed playing soccer, cycling and running. He also had the unofficial title of 'Guinness Taster', a role he performed admirably. Anyone lucky enough to be in his company on those occasions could see how much he enjoyed life. Visitation will be held Wednesday, March 15, from 3-8 p.m. at Davenport Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 149 W Main St (Lake-Cook Rd) Barrington, IL 60010. Mass will be held the following day, Thursday, March 16 at 11 a.m. with visiting beginning at 10 a.m. at St. Anne Catholic Church, 120 Ela St, Barrington. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in Pat's memory may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital by visiting www.stjude.org. What an amazing character Patrick was, never did I see him without a smile on his face and it sure was infectious, he always made me laugh and it brightened my night to see him come through the door of the Kerryman. Thinking of you Helen and all of your family during this terribly sad time. My deepest sympathy.

Condolences to Pat's family. I, too, worked with Pat at Motorola Cork during the 90s. Pat was great fun at the soccer games and social outings which were a regular feature of that era for many of us. You'd know his laugh anywhere. He made 'the lab' a centre of excellence and played a big part in the rise of the Motorola Cork site through the 90s.

Played with Pat at Eaton Park in North Barrington for many years.
Pat always had that big smile for you ever time you walked onto the pitch. What a wonderful man!!!

I worked with Pat at Motorola in Cork in the early 90s, so worry to hear earlier today of his illness and later today of his death. I remember him as a sound guy, very clever and lots of fun. May he rest in peace.

Pat was a wonderful person and I have many happy memories of working with Pat in Motorola Cork, and also playing on the Motorola soccer team with him down through the years. He had a great sense of humor and I cannot honestly remember Pat ever being anything but a positive person.
Condolences to his family especially, and many friends on this untimely loss.
