I just read of Dick's passing. The many kind remembrances of him are very touching. Allow me to add one from further back in Dick's life, when he was working for a very fine men's clothing store in Hinsdale; The Squire Shop. I worked there also, and the one unique memory for me was his announcing of the polo games at the Oakbrook Polo Club.
The Squire Shop sponsored a game there and Dick's commentary during the game was priceless. Time frame for this was the 60-70's.

Dick you will be missed by us all in New Jersey. We enjoyed our conversations about golf and football over the years and I will miss that most of all, but it will be that cup of spiced buttered rum coffee every morning that will bring a tear to my eye and fond memories.

Our deepest sympathy's to Beverly, Scott, Steph and grandchildren.

May the road rise up to meet you,
May the wind be always at your back,
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
And the rains fall soft upon your fields,
And until we meet again,
May you be in heaven a full ½ hour afore the devil knows ye’re dead
May God hold you in the palm of His hand
You will be missed,
The Irishman

Beverly and Scott and all of Dick's family: Dick was one of the "Good GUYS", I loved working with him and considered him a close friend. I will miss him. I won't ever forget the trip to Kokomo,Ind. to see J.W. Smith after his accident. I have known Dick for over thirty years, and we worked side by side for all those years in a noble profession. He was a noble man, a great friend and teriffic mentor to young police officers. While I feel a piece of me died with him, I also know I now have a piece of him with me at all times. He will be missed.

After working with him for so many years, what can you say about a man like Dick - he was quite a guy. He had a huge influence on my career early on and I will miss him. I consider myself lucky to have run into him the last May when we were back in the area. We had a very nice visit at the Squire. To his family, my prayers and sympathy.
