Richard E. Nielsen, 92, longtime resident of Norwood Park, went home to be with his Lord December 24, 2016. Beloved husband of the late Shirley Rae Nielsen, nee Oldham. Loving father of Susan (Willard) Sims, Janet (Barry) Thomas, Carol (Steven) Zillmann, Martha (Daniel) Dondit and Laura (Patrick) Crabtree. Proud grandfather of Jack, Julia, Madeleine, Greta, Isabelle, William, Joshua and Sean. Dear brother of the late Carol (Robert) Thomson. Fond uncle of many nieces and nephews. Cofounder of the architectural firm of Nielsen & Greenberg Architects of Evanston, IL. Visitation Tuesday, December 27, 2016 at the M.J. SUERTH FUNERAL HOME, 6754 N. Northwest Hwy., Chicago from 5-9 pm. Funeral service Wednesday at 11:30 am. Memorials to Windy City Community Church, 6131 N. Newark Ave., Chicago, IL 60631 appreciated. Interment Montrose Cemetery.
