Robert Brandwein Obituary

July 27, 1929 - December 27, 2023

Robert F. Brandwein, 94, passed away peacefully on December 27, 2023. He was the cherished husband of the late Jean Eisler Brandwein; beloved father of Debra Manetta (Edward) and the late Bruce Brandwein; proud grandpa of Lindsey, Nicki and James Manetta; dear brother of the late Jack and Herbert Brandwein; and special to many other family members and friends.

Born on July 27, 1929, Robert grew up on the south side of Chicago in Hyde Park, where his family had been in the mattress manufacturing business since 1902. He received his undergraduate degree from University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and his law degree from Northwestern University, graduating among the top of his law school class, along with the former Chicago Mayor Harold Washington. He had a love for the city of Chicago and was knowledgeable about its history, architecture and museums.

Robert and his beloved wife Jean moved to Glencoe, IL in 1965, residing in the same house for nearly 55 years. During this entire time, Robert was a practicing real estate and corporate attorney. He began his career working as a lawyer for McDonald's Corporation and then went on to work for HUD (U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development), Levitt & Sons, and IC Industries Inc. (Midas International Corp.). Upon retirement, he moved out to the east coast to be near his daughter and grandchildren.

Robert will be remembered for his keen interest in others, his gentle and kind soul, and the heart he shared with all in his presence. He will be missed dearly.

There will be no immediate funeral service; instead there will be a celebration of his life memorial service in the coming weeks.

Heartfelt condolences.
Bob and I worked together in the legal department at Midas in the mid 80s. He was a very gentle and nice man. May his memory be a blessing.
