Robert Goldberg Obituary

ROBERT E. GOLDBERG (1942-2022)

Bob Goldberg, a commodities trader and former Chairman of the Chicago Board of Trade, died peacefully November 5, 2022, at home in Chicago. He was a member of the Board of Trade for over fifty years.

Bob and his brother, Dave, were partners in Goldberg Securities and Goldberg Brothers with offices in Chicago, New York, San Francisco and Philadelphia. He later became the girls' basketball coach at Josephinum High School and Regina Dominican High School.

Bob served on numerous boards, was a Lifetime Trustee of DePaul University and a recipient of the Simon Wiesenthal Award.

Born in Chicago, Bob attended Notre Dame High School and graduated from DePaul University. He was a Navy veteran. He married Kathy Tenney in 1972. They lived in Winnetka and Chicago. Loving father of Theresa (Chris Fletcher), Amy (Bob Tierney), Karrie (Gregor Bran), and Keeley (John Brogan). Proud Grandfather, "Papa", of Charlie, Callie, Riley, Luke, Keeley and Maddox.

Bob's legacy was his love and devotion to his faith, family, Chicago Board of Trade, the Cubs and coaching basketball. He was kind to all, brought laughter to many, encouraged countless and inspired everyone that crossed his path.

A memorial Mass will be celebrated January 21, 2023, 10:30 a.m., St. Joseph Church, 1107 North Orleans Street, Chicago.

I met Bob when the Chicago Board Options Exchange opened in 1973. I was a young newcomer and he and his brother, Dave, encouraged me and gave me much sound advice. He was always kind, understanding and ready with a quick quip and a ready smile. He was a gentleman in every way and everyone had only the highest regard for him. He will be in the memories of all who ever had the good fortune to meet him. A life well lived. Sincere condolences to the family.

When I think of Mr Goldberg, I think of a person with humbleness, humor and someone you could look eye to eye in a conversation about really anything. I loved growing up watching him love and respect his girls (Kathy, Kathy´s Mom and his daughters). While I did not know his faith life, you could see Faith in his character.
