As a chemist with interest in the field of Iodine Chemistry, I just learned with great sadness about the passing of Robert M. Moriarty. I never met him, but he has been a reference figure in the field, having developed many of the key concepts in this area. His findings are helping us to understand some of the behavior of hypervalent iodine, and have set the stage for many current - and, I suspect , future - applications of such reagents. In fact, he was ahead of his time on several aspects of Iodine Chemistry, and some of his group's work from decades ago will likely get even more attention in the coming years.

My best wishes and sympathy to the family. May he rest in Peace.

I am so proud to have had you as my father. Your first born. Born on 8/20/1958 at 8:58 a.m. We had finally reached a place in our relationship where we could have real conversations about real events. You are always good for a laugh and I felt great after having a conversation with you. You are the one I would turn to for reason and advice during some trying times. I find myself needing to ask you a question and wanting to email you. I still have not wrapped my head around the fact that I will never be able to talk to you again and it truly breaks my heart. I was so very proud of you and would brag about you to anyone who cared to listen. You are an amazing man having come from such humble means. Your ambition and drive are something that I could only hope to have a had small percent of that combination. We had so many more memories and thoughts to share. I'm lost right now. Whatever heaven is all about, I hope you know how many people will miss you. You were taken too soon. I'd do anything to have had one more talk with you. I miss you every waking moment. I hope to see you again someday. That thought will keep me from completely breaking. I love you Pop. I will take your advice, print out all the emails & who knows maybe there's a book within these emails to be written as you suggested. I hope you are at PEACE!
