Ettelson, O'Hagan, Ehrlich & Frankel
April 28, 2023
In 1970, Mr. Nix was an attorney at Ettelson, O'Hagan, Ehrlich & Frankel. I was a law clerk and messenger. The law firm hired students from St. Ignatius College Prep (Mr. Nix's alma mater) to serve as clerks and messengers.
He treated me with respect and once represented me in a traffic case in DuPage county. He did so pro bono and he won the case.
Years later, I was scheduled to appear before him in Chicago Traffic Court.
I originally plead not guilty, but when I stood before the bench, I changed my plea to ask for a continuance.
He asked me why I was changing my plea to request a continuance. I honestly told him it was because I used to work for him at Ettelson, O'Hagan, Ehrlich & Frankel. I felt it would influence his judgement.
He questioned me to ask I thought it would influence his impartiality, I said I didn't want to put him at any risk.
He told me and the Court he would be impartial.
He immediately pounded his gavel and dismissed the case. Much to the chagrin of the prosecutor.
Mr. Nix was a serious lawyer with a wry sense of humor. He embodied the Jesuit principles.
I believe he was one of the reasons Ettelson, O'Hagan, Ehrlich & Frankel hired St. Ignatius students. There were other partners and associates who were product of Jesuit education, but the firm was primarily Jewish lawyers. Mr. Nix was a an influence on me at Ettelson, O'Hagan, Ehrlich & Frankel.
He espoused the Jesuit ideals of A.M.D.G.
I was glad to know him on a professional level and personally.
My sincere condolences to his family, friends, and clients.
Timothy Hinsdale, Class of 1971 St. Ignatius College Prep.

To Judge Nix's Family
Bob was a great guy and working with him was always a pleasure. He and Mary Ellen were a lovely couple who we knew socially.
Will always think of Bob as a kind and gentle man who will always be remembered.

We were neighbors at Brookdale, Oak Park, on the 11th floor. He was such a nice guy and we loved to talk politics and religion with him.
