Robyn Chew-Gibbs Obituary

Robyn Chew-Gibbs was born in San Francisco on October 10, 1953.

She attended John F. Kennedy High in Sacramento, where she was the head "Song Leader" cheering along the sidelines. She studied Kinesiology during her undergrad at UCLA and completed her masters in Exercise Physiology at Cal Berkley where she met some of her best, life-long friends.

She worked for nine years as a Training and Development Specialist for Levi's Strauss & Co. in San Francisco where she met her husband and greatest love, Joe.

Her work enabled her to travel the world extensively, delivering executive coaching and training to hi-tech leaders in the networking and telecommunications industry. She left LS&Co. for Industrial Light and Magic, spending five interesting years supporting the creative personalities in Marin county.

She dedicated 13 years to Juniper Networks in Silicon Valley as a Director of Learning, Leadership and Effective Organizations. She launched her own business, "Chew-Gibbs Leadership Training & Coaching", in July of 2018 and delivered training/leadership programs in the UK, France, Netherlands, Finland, Germany, Switzerland, Israel, Saudi Arabia, Dubai, Australia, China, Japan, and the US.

Robyn was kind to everyone. She loved helping people better themselves, specifically, their abilities to communicate more effectively. She loved finding these opportunities and got the greatest joy when she watched someone "connect the dots" and apply the learnings. She was a true "people person", always ready to engage and listen.

Forever a student herself, Robyn was insatiably curious about the world, its people, and its foods. She loved to take tours wherever she went and had a passion for new experiences. We will fondly remember her planning the next meal while eating the current one, savoring flavors and admiring cooking techniques beyond her imagination, and asking questions everywhere she went.

Robyn loved nothing more than her family. She took great joy from raising her only daughter AJ, caring for and guiding her husband of 30 years, and initiating countless family gatherings with her extended family.

An avid swimmer and athlete, Robyn took her talent for swimming and trained many of her adult colleagues how to swim in pools up and down the Bay Area. She could often be found at the Fountaingrove club knocking down a mile or two in the pool, before maintaining her beautiful tan.

She never did anything partially and was always a team-player. Robyn was passionate and committed to helping others. She believed in justice for all people and got involved and invested. Robyn was very supportive of Womxn and Children's causes, volunteering and donating to many of the Bay Area food banks, Womxn's shelters and Legal Defense Funds. She vociferously recycled, reused and composted as much as possible, leaving every room better than how she found it.

Robyn is survived by her husband Joe Gibbs, daughter AJ Links (sp. PJ Fishwick), brother Tom Chew (sp. MJ), nieces Jayme & Mary Chew, and extended Chew, Cummings, and Gibbs families. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to cots.org an organization working to fight homelessness in Sonoma County.

Dear Joe and AJ: I learned of Robyn's passing when I was trying to notify her of the passing of Jordan Safine just 5 days prior to her death. My heart is broken. Robyn, Jordan and I worked at Strawberry Canyon. You may remember a wonderful evening we all spent at your home. While I have not seen Robyn in many years, her warmth and wisdom still fill my heart. My deepest sympathies.

I met Robyn at Cal grad school in 1978. Her last name was Dicker per her first husband. We became running partners that led to Robyn winning the first and only Livermore Marathon in 1981. I have a scrapbook picture from front page of Livermore newspaper crossing the finish line hand in hand over our heads. I last saw Robyn in 1988 when I moved to San Diego. A great lady!!!! My condolences to her family and friends. Marty

Joe and AJ, we were all blessed to have Robyn in our lives. She was fun. She was happy. She was an upper to many of us. She was brave and she was honest. I am so sorry for our loss. She was truly a special human being.

We were 13 yo, taking French from Miss Ayers, I had a tough time pronuciating & she´d help me out, C´est si bon!, she´d say. I so remember that! Her soft voice was always encouraging. Then of all coincidences, she calls up my roommate, Michael Taam, like 17 years later, I answered´, there´s that soft voice asking for him! I"m thinking, no way! She came over to visit & blew me away! My past right in front of me, it was great! She was so awesome, I didn´t feel worthy of her kindness!

Robyn was a lovely and bright light during our 3 years as neighbors following the Tubbs Fire in which we lost everything. We grew closer and were looking forward to many more years as friends, which sadly was not in the stars. We will cherish her inspiring memory and wish Joe all the best going forward without his muse.
