RONALD GILBERT Obituary

Ronald Gilbert, 79; Beloved husband of 59 years to Syril; devoted father of Roselynn (Gary) and Arthur (spouse Theresa), loving grandfather of David and Katherine, Timothy and Joseph, (and don't forget Sugar and Coco); caring brother of Sandra Goldstein (Seymour); cherished uncle, friend, mentor and role model, passed away June 3 after a valiant struggle with a chronic lung disease. Ronny was born in Chicago and spent his last 48 years in Wilmette. During his 32 year career in dentistry, Ronny was the President of the North Side branch of the Chicago Dental Society, was elected to the Illinois State Dental Society Executive Council, was chairman of the dental departments at Mt. Sinai and Skokie Valley hospitals, and was President of the Illinois Foundation of Dentistry for the Handicapped. During the Korean War, he was a Captain in the U.S. Army Dental Corp. After retiring from dentistry, Ronny became a full-time community volunteer and runner of marathons. Amongst many other philanthropic pursuits, Ronny was the Founder and President of the Lutheran General Hospital Mended Hearts chapter, chair of the New Trier Township Health and Human Services Committee, and President of The Cancer Care Foundation. He was selected as a Wilmette Rotary Citizen of the Year and as the Pioneer Press Volunteer of the Year in 2001. In his final weeks, he eagerly planned his 80th birthday celebration and looked forward to spending time with family and friends. Funeral services will be held Monday, June 6, 10 a.m., at Weinstein Funeral Home, 111 Skokie Blvd, Wilmette, IL. Interment to immediately follow at Memorial Park Cemetery, Skokie, IL. In lieu of flowers, please send memorial contributions to The Cancer Care Foundation, P.O. Box 4651, Skokie, 60076

So sorry to hear about Dr. gilber. He was my first dentist back in 1954-55.
Until Dr. Parker took over.
My memories of him are that he was so funny! The laughter took away some of the fear.
Please accept the sympathy of myself and my daughet, Denise Orlich.

Dearest Syril, Artie and Roselynn:
It is Sunday afternoon and I have just returned from a church convention out of town and found the message concerning Ronny. How terribly sad I feel that all of you will now be missing such a fine and wonderful man whose passion for the suffering of others was always evident and whose smile and humor brought joy to many. He showed all who knew him determination and unwavering drive toward what was excellent, good and right. He stood for justice and peace in all things and did what he could do to change the world. He brought positive out of negative....his heart surgery into a support group where hearts were mended. He led the Cancer Care Foundation in an attempt to provide hope where hope seemed lost or had already been taken away. I have been blessed since 1982 when I first learned to know you Syril and Ronny. You both have brought joy to my life and hope to my heart. Ronny will long be remembered because he touched more lives than he could ever realize. He will be missed but will remain in my heart. God bless you during these days and months ahead and may God comfort you and be your refuge and strength as your mour and grieve. All my love and prayers,
Nora
