Ronald Lorenzini Obituary

Ronald N. Lorenzini, M.D. was the only son of Adele (Ruffo) Lorenzini and Nello Lorenzini first generation Italians, born December 12, 1935, in Oak Park, Illinois. He attended Roosevelt Grammar School, Fenwick High School, and completed his B.S. at the University of Notre Dame class of 1957. This was followed by his medical degree at Loyola University. Ron had a residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology (OBGYN) at the Cook County Hospital in Chicago. He then served in three years in the military as chief of OBGYN at the Vicenza, Italy Army Hospital. He is survived by his wife Donna (Janda), married for 63 years; children, Ronald Jr. (Colleen), twin daughters Nancy (Keith) Lorenzini M.D., and Susan (Lawrence deceased, Bill Gros) Dougherty, Thomas (Honor) Lorenzini; thirteen grandchildren, Ronald N. Lorenzini, Caroline Lorenzini, Michael Lorenzini, Isabella Lorenzini, Emily (Jake) Raeker D.D.S, Brian (Pooja) Kopec PhD, John Kopec, Gabrielle (Daniel) Cook, Thomas Dougherty, Anabella Dougherty, Thomas Lorenzini Jr., Henry Lorenzini, and Francesca Lorenzini. Ronald was the son of a local tavern owner, who was also a former trustee of the Town of Cicero. Ron kept in touch with the members of his grammar school class with a faithful once a month breakfast meeting. In 1958 while attending Notre Dame, he met his wife Donna who was in the nursing program at St. Mary's College. It was a meeting that culminated with a marriage. The military service in Vicenza, Italy was a wonderful time for the family. It was a time for Ronald to find his Italian heritage roots, a time for Donna to embrace the Italian culture, and a time for the children to be raised in the Italian Montessori program and the military school on base. Their son Thomas Lorenzini was born in Italy in 1966. Upon the completion of his military service, Ronald entered a private practice as a partner with George Moran, M.D. in Downers Grove, Illinois. He was on the staff of Hinsdale Hospital serving as the head of the OBGYN department and Medical Staff President. He delivered over 7000 infants during his 40-year practice. He founded the "Gray Docs," a retired group of physicians from Hinsdale and LaGrange Hospitals that met once a month to bring back memories they treasured. After he retired, he spent time traveling back to Italy, working at his Lake Michigan get-away home and volunteering at the Community Health Center in Chicago, providing care for the uninsured patients. His favorite quote was "to touch the past you touch a stone, to touch the present you touch a flower, to touch the future you touch a life." From his practice he touched over 7000 lives. He owes his strength and perseverance to his wife Donna's devotion and the love his family. The family lived by the mantra, "Sempre Famiglia." My sincere sympathy to the family of Dr. Ronald Lorenzini. He was my OB/GYN out of Hinsdale. I adored him. One of the best doctors I ever had. He delivered my son in May, 1975.
He took such great care of the both of us. Rest in Peace Dr. Lorenzini. My prayers and hugs to all of you. What a great human being you were. You will be missed.

I was very sorry to hear that Dr. Lorenzini passed away. He was a wonderful physician with the OB practice Senica, Lorenzini and Bruneau in Downers Grove, IL. He was on call and delivered my first daughter in August 1994, who was two weeks early. We will keep your family in our thoughts and prayers during this most difficult time. I was shocked to hear of Ron's passing. I've known Ron since we were classmates at Fenwick and Notre Dame. We shared many stories and experiences whenever we spoke. The last time was when he called after my wife passed away. Ron was a genuine, really nice "guy". We would see each other at high school or college reunions. I enjoyed his Christmas cards showing his beautiful, large family. So large that he had to include a second card showing their names.
Donna, I share your sorrow in his passing. I know what it's like to lose a loved one who was your great love and partner for all those years. While that gap in your heart will never heal completely, cherish the memories that you shared with Ron. Know that he is in a better place and reaching down to support you and your family moving forward. Prayer offerings will be sent in his name. Stay strong.

I just got the news. I am very sad for your loss. Doc was my favorite OB/GYN and I saw him for many years. I have very fond memories of him. Praying God's comfort for all of you at this time.

Dr. Lorenzini...one of my father´s closest friends. They came from the same `neck of the woods´. High school and medical school together. I was blessed to know him and even more so to have him deliver my two daughters...Caitlin and Brenna Lollar...30 years ago. I drove to Hinsdale Hospital from my home in Oak Park EVERY TWO WEEKS for the entirety of my pregnancies as he was aware of other health complications I had and he was determine my girls would be born safe and sound.
In the years that have followed, I have had the privilege of staying in touch with him. He and my father have remained close friends and when last I spoke to him, he rang with concern as he knew my dad was diagnosed with a brain tumour. He was always loving and caring and a text or call or just hearing his voice always made my month.
The Lescher women in my family have all been blessed by his medical care and his unending compassion. Mrs. Lorenzini....I will be praying and thinking of you and your family constantly. He was certainly an `Earth angel´ and now he is sitting with God and watching over us all. I am so sorry for you loss. An amazing doctor, friend, man. Blessings. Love, Cindy Lescher Turner
