ROSEMARY GALLAGHER Obituary

Rosemary "Maura" Gallagher, 79, native of Kilmainhamwood, County Meath, Ireland, passed away peacefully in her home Sunday, July 11, surrounded by loved ones, after a brief and courageous battle with cancer; beloved wife of Bernard James "Barney", native of Arranmore Island, County Donegal, Ireland for nearly 55 years; proud mother of Anne Gallagher, Brian (Christel) Gallagher, Dominic (Angie) Gallagher, Mary Rose (Collin) Meissner, Caroline (Fritz) Hartman, Catherine (Ken) Pausche; cherished grandmother of Brendan, Christen, Quintin, Brooke, Finian, Hannah, Dea, Luke, Caitlin, Conor, Cara, and Quinn; dear sister of Sr. Eileen Keogan MMM, Phelim and Seamus Keogan of Ireland; preceded in death but now reunited with her beloved parents Luke and Mary Keogan and brothers Fr. Patrick and Dominick and sisters Josephine, Kathleen and Oonagh. Maura never walked into a room she didn't light up with her charm, elegance, and unfailing good humor. In addition to taking care of Barney and six children, she served as a nurse for 40 years, spreading care and kindness wherever she went. To her last day, Maura handled life's challenges with a grace, courage, and abundant faith that will continue to inspire all who knew her. We can hear her saying "Keep your heart up!" to the many family, friends, and fellow AA club members who are lonely for her beautiful presence. Her lovely smile was present to her last day. Memories of Maura can be posted at www.caringbridge.org. Visitation Tuesday, 3 until 8 p.m. at Gibbons Funeral Home, 134 South York Road, (1/2 mile North of Saint CharlesRoad), Elmhurst. Visitation and Mass of Christian Burial times Wednesday to be announced. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Medical Missionaries of Mary, 3410 West 60th Place, Chicago, IL 60629. Dear Barney and family. We are sorry to hear about Maura's death. You did tell us she was very ill but nevertheless it must be a shock to all of you. You will all be in our prayers and we will be with you in spirit to-morrow. Rita & Aidan Gallagher.

July 12, 2010

Our hearts go out to you at this time and in the days ahead. Please take comfort in knowing that God promises us at Revelation 21:4 to wipe every tear from our eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. How comforting to know that very soon death will be done away with. May God give you the strength to cope with the loss of your beloved Rosemary.

Maura was one of my all time favorite people. We worked together at Oak Park Hospital in the 70's and had so many laughs. She was so beautiful in nature and face. I loved her and she will always be fondly thought of.
