Sandra Daggett Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce Sandy's passing on April 15, 2023 after a prolonged illness. Sandy was born in Chicago on February 26, 1948 to John Schulz and Florence Schulz (nee Wielgos). Sandy moved with her parents and young brother Fred to Otsego, Michigan in 1953. Sandy graduated from Otsego High School and returned to Chicago in 1966 to attend The Chicago Academy of Fine Arts. She met the love of her life Kenneth Daggett, whom she wed on December 12, 1967. Sandy and Kenny bought an historic century old Victorian mansion in Wicker Park from which they celebrated annual Twelfth Night gatherings for scores of friends and neighbors. Tragically, Kenny was lost to cancer at an early age and Sandy had to soul search her options for the future. The Stryker family of Chicago/Oak Brook was fortunate to learn of Sandy and hire her as the Nanny, a personal/ professional relationship that lasted 25 years. Sandy moved to La Grange in 1998 where she added dozens of new friends and neighbors to her Twelfth Night invitation list. When Sandy retired as the Stryker children grew to adulthood, she became a fulltime dogsitter, housing scores of beloved pets over the ensuing 15 years. Sandy loved all animals (but especially dogs), loved scrapbooking and crafts, and doing all home repairs and improvements herself. She was truly a "pioneer woman". Sandy is survived by her brother Fred (Helen) Schulz, nephew Christopher Schulz, cousin Janice Willis, and sister-in-law Suzi Zimmerman. She is profoundly missed by the beloved children she helped raise: Alexis Laughlin (Bret), Sean Stryker, Nicholas Stryker and Ethan Smid. She adored her beautiful dogs Lillian and Emmy Lou. She is missed by many longtime friends and neighbors.

Visitation and funeral service will be held May 5, 2023 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 124 N. Spring Ave, La Grange, IL 60525. 10 am Visitation and 10:30 am Mass. Interment private. In lieu of flowers, donations in Sandy's name to Orphans of the Storm Animal Shelter would be much appreciated. 847-945-0235
