Selby Toporek

1941 - 2021

Selby Toporek, 79, of Chicago, IL, entered into eternal rest Sunday, February 28, 2021. Selby was born March 23, 1941 in Charleston, SC, daughter of the late Samuel Irving Toporek and Jeanette Solomon Toporek. After moving to Chicago in 1972, she worked for the American Hospital Association, the American Medical Association, Michael Reese Hospital, and several advertising and marketing firms. In 1990 she received a commendation from the Visiting Nurse Association for directing the group's centennial. Selby is survived by her brothers Haskell Toporek (Dale) of Augusta, GA and Elliot Toporek of San Francisco, CA; two nieces and two nephews; her aunt, Rita Solomon; numerous cousins; and many devoted friends from the Chicago area. Memorials may be made to PAWS Chicago or to Addlestone Hebrew Academy, Charleston, where an award is given each year in her mother's name to the valedictorian in general studies.
