Sherwood McGee Obituary
Sherwood (Bill) McGee, age 87 of Lisle lost his lengthy battle with prostate cancer passing away peacefully at Edward Hines, Jr. VA Hospital in Hines, Illinois, October 16, 2014. United in heaven with beloved wife Minnie Lou nee Jackson; loving father of Robert McGee, Patricia (Glenn) Blockinger, Kathryn (Frank) Tallon, Frank (Christine) McGee, and Carol (Giles) Davis; cherished grandfather of seven; beloved great-grandfather of three; dear brother of Dr. Thomas (Lili) McGee, and James (Christine) McGee; fond uncle of many nieces and nephews; and devoted companion of Anne Titzer. He served in the merchant marine, later joining the Coast Guard and was a WWII veteran. Using the GI Bill, he graduated from the University of Illinois in Champaign with a degree in metallurgical engineering. The recipient of numerous patents, he was renowned for his work with powdered metals and ornamental iron. A charter member of Faith United Methodist Church of Lisle and active in their Boy Scout Troop 108, he helped design and build the Council Ring and Totem pole that can still be seen from Maple Ave. just west of the I- 355 interchange. Services have been held. Donations in his honor may be made to Edward Hines, Jr. VA Hospital in Hines, Illinois, or your local VFW.To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
