To the Mally family:
Mals was a one of a kind man. I first met Steve in 1975 when he generously "hosted" a group of us traveling from St. Louis to Chicago to see the Rolling Stones at the Stadium. Before the concert he took us to his softball game, where he jacked that 16 inch Clincher over the left fielder's head for a 3 run homer. It was my first taste of his renowned athleticism.
A year later I was enrolled at Mizzou, and he graciously opened his arms to a lowly freshman. Nothing like knowing a few guys on the football team for making a great start to college.
Many years later I moved to Chicago, where I would come to love Mals' beloved White Sox. My kids are Sox fans today because of Steve's influence in my life.
I hope you all know that your incredible son, dad, uncle, brother and husband touched everyone he met. He was truly a man of character...and a life-loving character who will never be forgotten.
Rest in Peace Mals.

I first met Steve and played football with him at St. Denis during eighth grade. I knew him and saw him during high school and I last saw him at the St. Denis class of '69 reunion in 1994. I remember his strong deep voice laughing a strong deep laugh. He was always kind, pleasant and friendly. Although he was powerful, he was never arrogant. I am sorry to hear of his early death. I will always remember him

Dear Mally family,
I knew Malls from 3rd grade at St Denis, football, track, Bogan baseball, St Laurence etc. He was always a great guy with a great laugh. I have said many times over the years that he was the greatest athlete I ever knew. From the football field to the track--he could do it all. He was truly a hero to me. A hero not just because of his great skills but because of the way he carried himself in victory. He was always just Malls- smiling and laughing at the finish line. My deepest regrets at your terrible loss. He was a fine man.

My condolences and prayers are with ya'll. I knew Mals for only the last six years or so when he came down with the boys for Tigers football. He was a great and nice guy who accepted me as one of the group. He was one of a kind and his great humor and laugh will be greatly missed.
