Thomas O'Hern Obituary
Born on Dec. 5, 1950 in Chicago, IL to the late George and Bridget (nee Hartigan) O'Hern. Beloved brother of George, Donna, and the late Tim (Colleen), uncle of Katie, Kelly, Bridget, Jessica, Johnny and Jeff. Died on Nov. 11, 2014 of complications from pneumonia while visiting the USA. Tom was the Founder and Executive Director of Family Hope Charity where he lived in Kenya. In the spirit of St. Vincent de Paul, he dedicated his life to sharing faith and hope with the extremely poor in the most forsaken slums of Nairobi, Kenya. He touched many lives worldwide with his compassion and his tireless work. A celebration of Tom's life will be held Sat. Nov. 15th at 10 a.m. at St. Celestine's Catholic Church In Elmwood Park, IL. A Mass of Resurrection will follow at 11 a.m. Family and friends are welcome to share a Memorial Luncheon after Mass. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Family Hope Charity, P.O. Box 2838, Palatine, IL 60078.To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.

So sorry about Father Tom. My condolences to George & Donna. I, Brian Fitzgerald grew up with the late Tim and we were always together ,all over the neighborhood. My parents were from Co.Kerry and I know Mrs.O'Hern was from Co.Tipperrary,Ireland. So many good memories of all the O'Herns. God Bless

My sincere sympathies to the family of Tom O'Hern who mourn his loss so keenly. Having been at his first mass, I do recall Tom and believe I also met him when he was younger, on a trip to California. I know my own brother, Fr, Tom Pelton, was so pleased that Tom became a priest. Love to all, Mary Anne (Pelton) Hannibal
