Dr. Virginia Saft Mond

Virginia Mond Obituary

Dr. Virginia (Colebeck) Saft Mond, a psychiatrist and psychoanalyst in private practice in Chicago until 2016, died peacefully at home on November 21, 2022. Born in Greensboro, Alabama, Dr. Saft attended Sophie Newcomb College, Yale Medical School and the University of Chicago medical school. She married James Harry Saft, M.D., also a psychiatrist and psychoanalyst in 1951, who preceded her in death. The Safts had two children, Elizabeth and James. James Jr. also preceded her in death. In 2003, Dr. Saft married Dr. Ernest Mond, and enjoyed a decade of marriage before his death in 2013. Dr. Saft is survived by her twin sister, Ann Reed, daughter Elizabeth, daughter-in-law Rebecca, four granddaughters, and many loving extended family members. The family will gather privately to celebrate Dr. Saft's life. Donations may be made in her memory to the American Civil Liberties Union or the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.
