Linzing, Walter D. 92, of Park Ridge. Loving husband of 63 years to Joan. Devoted father of Diane Schuler, Bill (Leigh) Linzing, Karen (Mike) Stanton, Susan, Michael John Walter (Laurie) and Daniel Linzing. Cherished grandfather of Nate, Ellen, Jeremy, Allie, Madeline, Hannah, Brett, and Benjamin. Fond uncle of many. Distinguished and dedicated career as a professional civil engineer. Active member of German American Singers of Chicago. Walt loved life, people, and his Wisconsin lake house. Visitation Friday, March 2, 4:00-8:00 p.m. at Nelson Funeral Home, 820 W. Talcott Rd. Park Ridge. Funeral Service Saturday, March 3, 10:30 a.m.; please meet at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 1006 Gillick Street, Park Ridge. Interment: Town of Maine Cemetery. My father and Walt were classmates at the University of Illinois. Walt expressed sympathy and told me how he knew my father. My father didn't have many friends later in life and I appreciated that Walt remained one. I just happened to think of him today. He was a caring man.

Dear Diane and Sue, I was sorry to hear that your father passed away. On the few occasions you kindly invited us to your family gatherings it was obvious what a close and loving family you are and his absence will be greatly felt in your family dynamic. In the years to come I know you will cherish all the memories you have of your father and they will help you move through the difficult times you are dealing with now. Best regards to you both. I have sooo many memories growing up across the street from your wonderful family in park ridge and your dad was one of a kind. I had the pleasure of working for Walt at Harza Engineering Co. in the late 1970s. He was a decent boss, extremely collaborative and inspiring. One Saturday AM, I delivered a box of reports that he needed to take with him for an ISPE meeting. The project was assigned at 4 pm that Friday.
Suffice to say, it was a very long evening and I delivered the carton at 1 am/Saturday. Walt was adamant about me ringing his front door bell in Park Ridge. One of his sons wasn't all that thrilled as he opened the door to greet me.
Every barking dog on the block also knew I was there to hand off the reports for Walt's Saturday meeting. The following Monday, Walt acknowledged my priority delivery and the astute comments from his youngest son.
It was a classic Walt Linzing story. He was great!
