Goodbye for now, Uncle Bill. He was one of the last of the greatest generation, a gentleman of courtly manners, and a survivor of the Great Depression. I well remember my Dad's stories of their wonderful childhood, the laughter and the mischief! Have fun again with my Dad, Jack, and your older brother Herb. 'Til we meet again.

DEAR BARBARA AND JOHN, DECADES HAVE PASSED SINCE I LAST WAS WITH BILL. BUT FOR ALL WHO KNEW HIM IN THOSE YEARS AT HAYT PLAYGROUND AND ST. GERTRUDE'S, THERE IS THE MEMORY OF WHAT A NATURAL LEADER HE WAS. IN SOFTBALL, FOR EXAMPLE, IT WAS BILL, CATCHING BEHIND THE PLATE, WHO WAS ALWAYS THE TEAM CAPTAIN. IT WAS UNIMAGINABLE THAT SOMEONE ELSE WOULD BE SEEN AS THE MAIN MAN. FOR ALL THOSE YEARS, THROUGH HIGH SCHOOL, IT WAS BILL. HE WAS OUR LEADER BECAUSE HE WAS ALWAYS FAIR, ALWAYS CALM, AND THE ONE WHO ALWAYS SOLIDIFIED THE REST OF US. PLUS HE COULD HIT A LONG BALL AND GET RUNNERS OUT AT THE PLATE.
GOD BLESS YOU, BILL.

Barbara,
Our deepest sympathy in your loss of Bill. I look back at a man of great integrity, charm and poise. A man who was respected and loved by all who knew him. Through his faith I know he is at peace with God. May we all share in that peace together.

Dear Barb,

I'm so sorry for your loss. I got to know Bill through business but he soon became a good friend and mentor.
