Dear Cheryl, Joyce, Ginny and Ruth,

Many were the times our family would load into our '57 Plymouth Sport Suburban wagon to take the long ride way out in the country to Homewood for a Sunday meal with the Kozlows. There, adjacent to wide banks of irises was the garage where we would invariably find our cousin Billy working away on his latest car. It was always interesting to see what he was up to. Nothing stood in his way when it came to repairing/rebuilding his cars, such was his engineering zeal. With the technical skill to fabricate his own wrenches to reach hidden spark plugs, Billy exemplified what used to be called true American Ingenuity. He was a prime example of the Practical Man, one who, like Uncle Wally, possessed great technical acumen and put it to good use in the everyday world. His talents were displayed with a demeanor that showed a total lack of pretense. My last memory of Billy was at Mother's 100th Birthday, poring over an issue of Collectible Automobile I instinctively handed to him. I was happy to see his contentedness in being immersed in the world he knew best, and I hope that there are endless vintage car shows in heaven. Amen.

Dear Cheryl, Joyce, Ginny and Ruth,
So sad at the passing of Cousin Billy. I'm obliged and thankful for the times he aided my family. He repaired my Mom's furnace and spent a whole day getting our old car running again. He was a mechanical genius. Not too long ago I received some Popular Mechanics magazines from the mid-fifties. In retrospect, Billy reminded me of the father in the monthly feature called Wordless Workshop who came up with elegant solutions to fix household repairs and problems to make life better for those around him. He was a builder, a thinker and an engineer. He is the type of man that made this country a better place. A place where self reliance, clear thinking and hard work paid off. May perpetual light shine upon him now and forever. Peace

Dear Cheryl, Joyce, Ginny and Ruth,
My deepest sympathy for the sudden passing of Bill. I have found memories of Bill as an avid golfer like myself. Boy back in the day he could hit the ball a mile. He used his mechanical genius to build his own custom golf clubs. He purchased the components to make custom clubs he ordered from Golf Smith. He fine-tuned the golf clubs like a fine-tuned engine specific to his golf swing. We played golf in CA at Pasatiempo, Golf Course along with Cheryl, up at the lake at Richmond Golf Course, Nippersink, and several rounds at Glenwoodie and Cog Hill. He worked out a deal to play golf for free at Glenwoodie. He would provide repair and maintenance of their coolers in the summer in exchange for free golf. Lots of fun teeing em up with him. His favorite professional golfer was Gary Player who was a physical fitness nut.
When he came up to Powers Lake he liked to sleep on the screened in porch on the hammock. Us kids enjoyed going for a ride in his panel truck. He had it flying down the country roads.
I was a treat to have breakfast with him at his favorite neighborhood restaurant, 3 Brothers. He said, “why should I fire up the stove when I can have breakfast and lunch at 3 Brothers for $4-5!”
As kids we enjoyed gong to you house in Homewood for Christmas and sharing dinner that we picked up on the way from Surmas Restaurant. I remember marveling the motorcycle trophies by the front door. I thought, wow cousin Willie was a champion who won a few motorcycle races!
I am a member of the Holy Face Ministry, devoted to the Chaplet of Divine Mercy. In 1931 Jesus appeared to Sister Faustina Helen Kowalska, a Polish nun. Jesus was dressed in a white garment with two rays of light shining from his chest. The white ray stands for the Water which makes the soul righteous and the red ray which stands for the Blood which is the life of the soul. He asked Sister Faustina to paint an image of this with the inscription, Jesus I Trust in You and share it with the world. The Chaplet of Divine Mercy Prayers are said often for the redemption of souls asking Jesus to intercede not as Judge but as Merciful Savior of the soul. Holy Face Ministry has over 100 members. An email was sent to all of us on Tuesday, December 21 to pray for the redemption of Bill’s soul. Also, Mass will be said for the redemption of his soul on January 11.
God Bless Bill and you,

Roger
