Dear Aunt Joanie, Cousins & families,
I was shocked upon hearing of Uncle Bill's passing. He was always my favorite uncle & I often wished he were my Dad instead. I'm so sad I didn't receive the news in time to travel home for the services, but please know my heart & prayers are with you in your loss of such a wonderful husband, father, & Chief. I still remember way back when he was featured in a newspaper story about how he comforted & stayed w/ a lady who was trapped in a serious (train?) wreck until she was freed finally. He was a true hero with a heart of gold & will be sorely missed by all who had the honor of knowing him in this life. Love, Mary Kay Nolan

He just touched everyone , David said, Bill had a way to just change the mood and direct the whole conversation to realization , everything would work out and be OKAY. what a wonderful gesture to remark of a Father.H e was teaching his son(family) and still comforting them. However it was William who was leaving this life. I listened an realized one more time, He was at peace with himself, and only had concern for his family and loved ones.Mr. Nolan I'll never forget you, for you have touched so many people. WE LOVE YOU..... THANK YOU, YOU SHINE ABOVE US ALL......
LOVE ALWAYS

Dear neighbor Bill: I once got so mad at my boss, I thought I'd better redirect my anger toward something a little more productive, so I dry-walled the garage and hired you to tape the seams. You were always around to tie up the loose ends. P.S. that old television I took 15 years ago, when you threw it in the trash… still works in my brother's house. What a guy, Captain! God bless your family today and always. Susan

I never met Mr. Nolan, but I work with his son, Kevin. I have come to understand that Kevin's father, a Chicago Firefighter, saved lives during the October 30, 1972 Metra Electric Train crash which resulted in 45 deaths and 332 people injured. Mr. Nolan and his partner were credited for staying with two teenage girls trapped in the wreckage for many hours until the girls could be cut out of the wreckage. His life was well spent as a decorated firefighter and his loss is a loss to the Illinois community.

It was an blessing to know Bill Nolan and to be counted among his friends. Over the past four years Bill and I became very close friends. His omnipresence at Mt. Carmel football and baseball contests, his volunteer work at the school and his devotion to the institution and its mission epitomized what it means to be a "Man of Carmel".

His mid-week volunteer day at MC was very special to me. My assignment at Carmel allows me to leave campus between the three shuttle-bus runs for which I am responsible. However, Wednesdays were a different story. I looked forward to Bill's presence, and on those days I remained on campus, throughout the day, just to spend those dellightfully exquisite hours with him.

I loved Bill and I will always cherish him and the profound impact he had upon me.
