I used to see Bill on the train/bus commute to work every day. He knew of my Irish heritage and bragged that he had married a beautiful Irish woman himself. He gave me the book, "How the Irish Saved Civilization." He was a good person and I am proud to have been his friend.

Bill & I go back to 1951 when we were in 7th grade at Myra Bradwell in South Shore. We went thru high school before we parted ways & reconnected 6 years later at the Railroad Retirment Board. We worked together for more than 30 years until I retired. After his retirement in 2004 he joined our monthly lunch club of RRB retirees,
Our future class reunions will never be the same without Bill.

My condolences to Nancy and the rest of Bill's family.
I also knew Bill from the Board. For several years prior to our retirements we worked on the same floor, though in different departments. When I would go into his office on business, we often talked about other matters too. He always had such a good sense of humor. It was fun just being with him. We talked about getting together after our retirements (in the park adjacent to the RRB where we could have a drink to those still working), but alas we never did. He will be missed.

Bill hired me in 1979 and I worked as his secretary for 6 years. Bob Gabriel is right, we had some good times. Even now, after 40 years at the RRB, I have to say Bill was my favorite supervisor. Through the years we kept in touch and I'll miss him.
