William Wienke Obituary

William J. Wienke, 79, of Glenview, January 3, 2004. Beloved husband, companion and friend for over 55 years to Dolores Mary, nee Gorman; cherished father of Ellen Wienke (Kevin Fitzpatrick), William (Diann) Wienke Jr., Anne (Jeff) Nordholm, Raymond (Laurie) Wienke and Joan (Joseph) Sefton; loving grandfather of 11; dear brother of Mary (Jack) Youngs and the late H. Raymond (Julie) Wienke. He was a graduate of St. Mel High School, Loyola University, Kent School of Law (JD) and the University of Chicago (MBA). He was a lieutenant in the Air Force during WWII. After serving his country, he worked in the real estate departments of the National Tea Company and the Standard Oil Co. In 1957 he went to work for the Walgreen Company, where he was Vice President in charge of real estate construction, acquisitions and served on the Board of Trustees. He was the founder and principal of Wienke Commerical Properties for the past 28 years. He was active in Junior Achievement, Big Brothers and the Kiwana's Club. He was a member of the Economic Club of Chicago, the Chicago Athletic Club and Sunset Ridge Country Club. For most of the past 15 years, he lived at the Landings in Savannah, GA. He will be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor, devotion to his family and generosity to all who touched his life. Visitation Wednesday, 10 a.m. until time of Mass, 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, corner of Church and Grove Streets, Glenview. Interment private. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Foundation for Mental Health, P.O. Box 1412, Farmington, CT 06034 or SR. Paulanne's Needy Family Fund, c/o OLPH, 1775 Grove St., Glenview, IL 60025. I met Mr. William Wienke, Sr. when playing football with his truly original son "Billy" at Loyola Academy in the late '60s. Mr. Wienke was a fine man and raised a terrific family. There's nothing greater a man can do. My sympathies to all in the Wienke family.
