John A. Roberson

1932 - 2017

On June 7, 2017, at North MS Medical Center Pontotoc Nursing Home, Mr. John "Chicken" "Bronk" Roberson surrounded by his family departed his life on earth for his eternal life in Heaven. John was born on August 9, 1932 to John Mitchell Roberson and Christanna Ball Roberson in Pontotoc County. He professed hope in Christ at Cherry Creek MB Church of Ecru, MS at an early age. He later became a deacon and was an active member of Cherry Creek. He was a member of Masonic Lodge #61. He married Florine Terrell on January 10, 1953. They had three daughters. John was known for his work ethic. He strived everyday to make a living for his family. One of the various jobs he had required catching chickens. This job is how he obtained the name chicken. He also worked in many factories, Brookwood being the longest span of employment. His most fond job was pouring concrete of which he did up until the year before he departed this life. John was known for his loving personality. He never met a stranger. He loved everyone he met. He loved to attend church, and also visiting loved ones. He leaves to cherish his memories his loving wife of 63 years: Florine Terrell Roberson, three daughters: Ruby Doris Williams, Bonnie (Willie) Ware, and Melissa Roberson all of Pontotoc, MS, grandchildren: Lincoln (Alicia) Williams of Tupelo, MS, and Kerianne Ware of Pontotoc, MS, four brothers: Herman (Earline) Roberson, MC (Martha) Roberson, Elom B. (Magalene) Roberson, JB (Gracie) Roberson all of Pontotoc, MS, two sisters: Earentine Vaughn and Shelby Jean Bell of Pontotoc, MS, one sister in law: Maxcine Roberson of Pontotoc, MS one goddaughter: Jean Scruggs of Evanston, IL, and a host of other family and friends. Visitation will be on Saturday June 10, 2017 from 4 PM to 8 PM, with family hour from 7 PM to 8 PM. Funeral service will be on Sunday, June 11, 2017 at 3 PM. Both visitation and funeral service will be held at Cherry Creek M.B. Church in Ecru, MS. Interment will follow at Pontotoc City Cemetery. Services entrusted to Payton Mortuary.
