Barbara Stringfellow Obituary

BARBARA JEAN STRINGFELLOW Barbara Jean Stringfellow, 83, received her Crown of Glory on April 13, 2017. Beloved wife, mother, sister, "Nanny", and friend, she was born to Carol and Margaret Taylor in Oroville, California on March 6, 1934. Her loving husband of 66 years, Claude Stringfellow; her parents; brothers, Vern Taylor and Jack Taylor; and a grandson, Kyle German, preceded her in death. She is survived by three daughters; Vicki Silva (Donald), Debra German (Howard), and Terry Cox; grandchildren, Jennifer Blair, Brent Silva, Sara Silva, Lori Griffin, Kevin German, Scott German, Chris Sanders, Brandon Sanders, Jeremy Sanders, Tyler Cox; 16 great -grandchildren; a brother, Glen Shaffner (Yuba City); and three sisters-in-law, Shirley Taylor (Montana), Clara Stringfellow (Durham, Ca.), and Barbara Stringfellow (South Carolina). Barbara worked as a meat wrapper for Collins and Denny's Market and Currier Brothers Market. She became a school bus driver for Oroville Union High School and then transferred into a secretarial position in the transportation office until she retired in 1994. Known to her grandchildren and great -grandchildren as "Nanny", she delighted in her family. Her great joy was hosting family celebrations, preparing memorable meals for everyone, and having her family together. She loved to sew as much as she loved cooking and was an active member of the local quilt guild. Barbara had been a member of Calvary Lutheran Church since the early fifties and she loved the Lord and serving others with all of her heart. Whether she was sewing quilts, preparing congregational dinners, serving in alter guild, facilitating Bible studies, or visiting those in need, she humbly and lovingly served the Lord and was an example of Christ's unconditional love to everyone she met. Even under the grip of Alzheimer's for nine years, her loving spirit was always evident. We will hold her in our hearts until we are all reunited. A service celebrating her life will be held at Calvary Lutheran Church, 10 Concordia Dr., Oroville on Thursday, April 13, 2017 at 11:00. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, contributions can be sent to Calvary Lutheran Church in her honor.

Barbara Jean Stringfellow was Nanny to more than just her grand and great grand children. Her sweet and welcoming heart of gold extended to my three children and myself as an ex sister in law to her granddaughter Lori Griffin. She included us in family holidays when we otherwise would have spent them just the four of us, my family being far away...And we felt such a warm welcome and part of Nanny'slarge and very close loving family. The stars shine brighter now, almost as bright as the lives Nanny touched with her presence. We will miss her but always have the gift of her loving light.
