Carl Colbie Obituary

CARL KJELD COLBIE Carl Kjeld Colbie was born in California in 1929 to Dr. and Mrs. Kjeld Colbie. He recently went to sleep to await the return of his Lord and Savior, Jesus the Christ. He attended the University of California at Berkeley and graduated from the Northwestern University Dental school in Chicago, Illinois, in 1954. After two years of active duty in the US Navy as a dental officer on an aircraft carrier, he moved to Chico where he met and married Miss Ruth Royer in 1958. They are blessed with a daughter, Karen Colbie Gunther, a son Timothy Colbie and three grandsons Kyle, Kurtis, and Kevin. He is also survived by his twin sisters Carol Black and Cecelia Muller. He practiced dentistry for 41 years in Chico and gratefully enjoyed serving his many friends and clients. Carl enjoyed hiking and climbed three mountain peaks over 14,000' above sea level. Mt. Whitney, Mt. Shasta, and Pikes Peak. He and Ruth climbed Half Dome in Yosemite Valley. He co-led a 125-mile hike with Boy Scouts in the Trinity Alps. He liked to garden (the plants are usually forgiving). He swam often until recent years. He and Ruth traveled to many countries enjoying much from each trip. He especially enjoyed being with and doing things with his family and friends. They savored many activities like hiking, traveling and swim meets, where he volunteered as an AAU referee. He spent many enjoyable years learning in OLLI. A learning in retirement program through Chico State. He was a member and served as an elder in the Chico Seventh Day Adventist Church. A California ordained pastor he shared the holy bible, particularly the gospel message and his life with many families and friends, inmates in the Butte County Jail and in the juvenile hall. He also helped others share this precious message both nationally and internationally. At the request of the decedent services shall be private.
