Carol Grigg Obituary

CAROL HILL GRIGG Carol Lynn Grigg passed away peacefully on July 8th 2018. She had an unsuccessful battle with cancer which she fought with positivity and courage. Carol was born in Chico California on January 9th, 1948 to Mack and Dorothy Morehead Hill, the second of 3 girls and a 4th generation Chicoan.. She attended Rosedale elementary, Chico Junior High and graduated from Chico Senior High in 1965. She then attended U.C. Santa Barbara before transferring to U.C. Berkeley and graduating in 1969. After graduation, she spent a year traveling through Europe where she met an Australian, Gary Grigg who would later become her husband. After teaching in Australia for a few years, Carol and Gary returned to Chico and were married in 1974. Carol returned to school and acquired her Masters in Special Education and was employed with Chico Unified as a Special Day and Resource Specialist. Among her business ventures she owned and operated Ranchaero Airport. She loved to travel and frequently returned to Australia to see her husband's family. She travelled to China, South Africa, Mexico and Guatemala along with trips within the US including many white-water rafting adventures. In her retirement she became what our family thought was the poster child for OLLI. She loved learning and became very interested in music. She played with the Tuesday Tunes as well as a smaller group of friends. She played the piano, guitar, ukulele, banjo, fiddle and drumsin varying degrees of proficiency! But she was willing to try all instruments. Among the many associations and boards that Carol participated in were Jobs Daughters, a life member of Bidwell Mansion Association, PEO, a member and past president of Omega Nu, a fund raiser for Enloe's Cardiovascular Center, and Butte United youth soccer Carol was preceded in death by her parents and husband. She is survived by her sons Josh (Sally), Jesse, sisters Maggie Hill, Kathryn Baker (Bruce), niece Kelly Baker and her grandchildren Wyatt, Zella and Levi Grigg. Carol was laid to rest at Chico Cemetery July13th and a Celebration of Life will be held on October 13th at 12:00 at Ranchaero Airport. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Margaret Morehead Nursing Scholarship at CSU Chico, the Sierra Club or to a charity of your choice in care of Brusie Funeral Home.Online condolences can be sent to the family at brusiefh.com.

Psalms 90:10 says that the days of our years are 70 years, And if because of special mightiness they are 80 years. May the memories of the wonderful times you shared together bring a smile and joy in your heart.

Carol was among many kids I knew at Rosedale. Friendly and smiling, always! To this day, I can remember watching her walk across the schoolgrounds toward the far corner. The next day I asked where she was walking, and Carol replied, Oh, I walk home from school. I live just over there. In my 9-year-old mind, I thought everyone rode the school bus. The Hill's and my family attended St. John's Episcopal. So, through school and church, Carol and me were affiliated. It's a refelective phase of life we will experience with the passing of an old chum. But, the memories are still rich and forever comforting. To Kathy, Maggie, and their families, my condolences to each. Carol will be remembered as one who gave so much of her talents and time to many.
