David Nunley Obituary

DAVID LANCE NUNLEY David Lance Nunley left us unexpectedly to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, May 29, 2022. He was 72 years old. David was born August 27, 1949, in Missoula, MT, to Walter and Marjorie Nunley; he was the oldest of eight children and was raised in a loving Christian home. David received his Bachelor's degree from Valparaiso University in 1971 and his M.D. degree from the University of Oregon Medical School in 1975. He married Donna Abraham, on March 15, 1975, in Portland, OR, and thereafter, David went on to do his residency in general and cardiothoracic surgery. In 1987, David moved his family to Chico, CA. where he practiced medicine for 35 years. David was a strong committed Christian. He carried Christ and lived his faith every day. David brought the profound goodness of God's truth to bear upon the upbringing of his children, his relationships with others, and the medical care he provided to those in need of healing. He was an active member of St. Augustine of Canterbury Anglican Church in Chico, serving as a Vestryman and Warden. David was an avid reader who continued to educate himself throughout his life. His passion for motorcycle riding watched him ride the highways of every lower state in the country, many times accompanied by a friend or family member. In recent years, David embraced the role of being a grandfather and cherished the time he spent with his dear grandchildren. David is survived by his wife, Donna Nunley of Chico, CA; his three children, Seth A. (Michelle) Nunley of Sutter Creek, CA, Meredith (Ethan) Dempsey of Sacramento, CA, and Brett W. (Jessica) Nunley of McMinnville, OR; he is also survived by his eight grandchildren; and, his sisters, Elizabeth Nunley of Seeley Lake, MT., Krista Codington of Grants Pass, OR, Ellen Demarest of Corvallis, OR, Kathryn Carlson of Roswell, NM, and Sharman Johnson of Corvallis, OR. David was predeceased by his parents, Walter and Marjorie Nunley; and his two brothers Brett Frederick Nunley and James Thurman Nunley. Services will be held at 11:30 a.m., June 18, 2022, at the First Assembly of God Church located at 1137 Arbutus Ave Chico, CA 95926. "We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life." June 15, 2022

I am in shock and extremely saddened to hear this news. David was a classmate of mine at the University of Oregon Medical School. I was one of his groomsmen in their wedding and a lifelong friend. He was a brilliant, caring physician and a true Renaissance Scholar with interest and knowledge in multiple fields.. Our heartfelt deepest sympathy and condolences go out to Donna and their extended family. I will dearly miss David, but we take comfort knowing he is with our Lord Jesus Christ.
