Don Caviness

1919 - 2013

DONALD CAVINESS Donald LeRoy Caviness passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving and devoted family. He was 94. Donald was born in Iowa on April 16th, 1919. His family moved to California in 1936. While attending La Sierra College he met the love of his life Vivian Macey. They married in 1943 while Donald was serving his country in the US Army. He obtained his doctorate at San Francisco School of Podiatry. In 1953, Donald moved his young family to Chico and started what became the Chico Podiatry Group. For 45 years, he loved podiatry and helping his patients. Donald was loved by all who knew him for his gentle nature and great sense of humor. He was rare among men because of his integrity and humility. He was a man of strong faith who loved God and lived an honorable life based on the principles he believed in. Donald is survived by his wife, Vivian, and their 3 daughters; Sandy (Mike) Moran, Zinita (Doug) Benson of Chico, and Shari Wareham of San Diego, 5 grandchildren; Missy (John) Nelsen, Melinda (Alexa) Benson-Valavanis, Barrett (Ashley) Benson of Chico, and Macy and Shelby Wareham of Colorado, 5 great grandchildren and a great grandson on the way. Also, surviving him are 2 brothers and a sister; Dewayne Caviness and Frankie Layland of Chico, and Ted Caviness of Vancouver, Washington, and many nieces and nephews. He lived a life of thankfulness and his favorite phrase was, "I am so blessed." A celebration of Donald's life will be held at the Chico Seventh-day Adventist Church, 1877 Hooker Oak Ave. on Dec. 14th, 2013 at 3:00 pm.
